Part of the photoconductor unit known as the transfer belt is not being detected when the E511 Service Requested error comes up. Epson in the UK has the troubleshooting outlined here:

My aculaser c1100 ran out of black toner, so I replaced that and then it announced I needed a new photoconductor unit as it was printing blank slightly grey pages. I have now replaced it and its doing teh same thing except now it says I dont need to replace teh photoconductor unit... Pretty peed off with this thing now as I am stuck in the third world and new parts take weeks to arrive if at all. Any ideas? please am trying to do my dissertation..

Hi,

the error code means that the whole conductor isn't being connected. Please remove your ink cartridges and check if the build up still occurs. If so, then it might be time to service the printer. Thank you.

Printer displaying "Service Req E511" and wont print
Error E511 relates to the PCU (not detecting the transfer belt rotating).
This appears to be common. Sometimes the belt can slide on the rollers to the left, thus the square metallic reflective spot on the belt does not pass over the TR0 sensor, no amount of cleaning will cure this, you either need to strip the top cover off hte PCU (6screws) and pull the belt back over to the left or replace the PCU all together. BTW PCU stands for Photoconductor Unit if you didn't know.

Error E511 is due to ur photoconductor.. the black transfer belt is out of position... it can be corrected if you know how to open up the photoconductor unit...

e511 is to do with the photoconductor unit which sits under the top lid

usually detector underneath the photoconductor dirty or the wide rubber belt then runs throuigh the photoconductor is sligthly off to one side

No functions are working, error code E511 shows in dialogue box
E511 is in regard to the photoconductor unit. There may be the need to clean the black belt from dust accumulation (other users have reported success by that) whilst I had success by cleaning the surface of the optical sensor on the left, accessible after lifting out the photoconductor. Keep the photoconductor shielded from light while you do this. It usually about stray toner accumulated on surfaces within the printer. Be careful how you remove "dust", a vacumn cleaner can catch fire because the dust is susceptible to electrostatic charge build up.
