When i open my web cam i only see a fixed picture of something else. It doesnt also capture picture but it only shows that fixed picture which i dnt know where it came from..when i use my web cam in ym my chatmate only see a black screen. Help

Cause you did not specified your problem exactly ..I will refer about video capturing in general using the web camera and a laptop ..No matter if the camera is built in or external the procedure is the same...Open the AMcap..program in start menu / all program s..This is the program usually present when you install a web cam driver..and when you open it the camera will open a window for capturing ..If it shows nothing use the setings to enable video and audio and also the preview... This will make you an idea about the quality ..After that all you have to do is open the capture using the start capture function in options or so ..and stop them ...when you stop ..usually it asks to save the file in a location ...You may also be asked when you start to assign a size for the file .. There is a better way to make a capture and this is using a capture program ..and I will recommend the windows movie maker...Itis present in all windows..and has a capture from device feature..and you have the editor advantage with i t..and the fact that will capture from other devices than web cam alone .too..so you can increase the quality as well .. if we are talking about the same acer netbook then it doesnt really have a self timer web cam picture. you may use your mouse to capture a picture though.
you download only the webcam software, not the video capture device so go to the web site and i think there u will find a free web cam capturing software.. n enjoy www.softpedia.com

probably on the cam settings it ha a case where it said black and white ...this case must free in order to see colored captures....so ..take a look it is placed somewhere in the right ( low) ...I hope you know how to get on camera settings...if not try this.. there are two ways: one its to open the AM cap and select from the window...options /video capture filter...and than uncheck the B/W case.. the other is to access the preferences in yahoo messenger ....camera settings...an the same ..uncheck the BW... Good luck ..and hopefully its from there ...if it isnt this one ...must be something wrong with the web cam ....let me know how it worked out..!
