Networking problem on Dell Optiplex 330

Hi all,

I'm trying to help my church with a networking issue that they have with a new Dell Optiplex 330. One day last week, the machine just refused to talk with the network, and when connected directly to the dsl router would not connect to the internet. Thinking it was probably just the on-board network port gone bad, we stuck in an ethernet card - with the same results.

Taking a last look at it today, I noticed a yellow LED marked 'aux pwr' lit up on the board. Would anyone know if that is an indication of a problem somewhere?

The machine is less than a month old, so we should be able to get Dell to service it, but would be nice to not have to ship it in if it can otherwise be resolved.

    This did turn out to be a motherboard issue & was resolved by replacement. Dell handled it nicely.

The AUX power light just means there is power getting to the motherboard.
It's main use it to remind you before you start to plug things into it that the board still has power. It's also a good way to check if the power supply is working, and turned on.

Check the ADSL router with another computer. Or if it has multiple network ports, try the cable in another port. For you to get the same result from both the onboard as you do from a plugin card would be unusual to say the least.
Log into the router/modem with another computer to check it's settings and connection status if possible.
Also try a reset on the modem, make sure you have all the login/password and other connection details for the ISP it connects to. The church should have a record of all this. Do a soft reset first, just unplug and plug back in.

The symptom you describe indicates a power issue, the most likely cause the PSU in the unit is failing, if you have a lot of USB devices connected try removing some of them, You could also try removeing all connected devices other than monitor keyboard and mouse and see if this will allow it to boot, but the most likely fix is going to be a new Power Supply unit.

My dell optiplex 330 fails to start. dignostic light 3, 4 blinks all the time the processor run and the hard drive is also fine please help solve problem

There is an issue with a fulty RAM module. Open up the case and remove one of the RAM modules. try restarting. If that doesn't work, put the one that you took out back in, and remove the other one. If that works, then you need to buy a new module to replace the one that was bad

hi Mostly the case there Might 2 Issues (1) SMPS the power supply is not working ( 2) mother board is faulty.
For more trouble shooting kindly check with or call them if the System is in warranty.

Disable the net work adaptor on device manager and enable again and see whether it helps. If this does not help uninstall the network drivers and reinstall this should work.
