1: White Lithium Grease
2: Silicone Grease

Either will work just as well, though lithium may be easier to find at the local auto-parts store...and a bit cheaper.
* They silicone comes in a spray which makes it easier to get to the hinges.

In a pinch, a can of Liquid Wrench will cure the noise, but it doesn't offer the long-term benefits of grease.

** There are 2 sets of hinges, upper and lower...and be sure to get the rollers on the guide arms.

2000 vw jetta. driver's side door lock switch will unlock door, but not lock it. passenger side locks all doors properly

Your probably correct in that the drivers side door toggle is broken. Check a junk yard to get this piece cheaply. A Volkswagen dealer will be very expensive. Call around and give them the year, model and make of your vehicle to find a used part.

The driver side door will not latch. It tries to auto lock when the rest of the door do - but wont.

try using the remote unlock - then press the remote lock. This works on my 2000 jetta tdi. VW dealership told me $450 job to change door latch and $45 to figure out if it is the latch or the NEW key they programmed a few months ago. By the way - is yours a NEW Key?

Looking for the fuse box for lights on a VW Jetta

all the fuses on an mk3 vw such as yours, are under the dash on the drivers side. they are kind of a pain to get to, but if you look under the steering wheel, above the gas and brake pedals, there is a little door that opens, the door has a diagram showing which fuses are which. usually the fuses dont go though, have you checked the bulbs?

How do you replace the driver's side door handle on a 1991 vw?

on this car there should be a black strip cover on the inside of door handle. take small screw driver and remove it starting from near lock cylinder, pry very gently and cover should come off, then gently peel the cover towards the front of the car until it is off. phillips screw is located in the rear of the door and at the front of the handle.
