A Diode allows electricity to flow in one direction and blocks it in the other direction. So when its open means its burnt out and nothing can pass through in any direction. they will need to be replaced.

I have a Sony KP-51ws520. I cannot power on. says stand bye and blinks 9 times.PLEASE HELP it is only 5 years old and they says some of the parts are no longer available.

Those LED flashs are a fault indicator...First thing to do is to try a reset:

With the TV plugged in push and hold down the reset button on your remote then press the power button on the the TV and then release the reset button once the screen has come up.

9 blinks means, "Zero Crossing Detector" and the probable cause locations listed are "D6166 or D6114 is open

If you are handy you can replace D6301 diode and it fixed the problem. You can buy that diode at partstore.com for $3. good luck

If still no luck then this is going to require a serviceman.

WHEN I TURN IT ON ALL THAT HAPPENS IS THE STAND BY LAMP FLASHES 9 TIMES THEN PAUSES

Diodes are blown on the G board (Power) which triggers the zero cross error. replace the G board or have yours rebuilt.

TV standby flashes 10 times first, then 9 times

I believe you have a "G" Board failure. If I am thinking correctly, when you open the lower cabinet back, you will see a smaller Board that the AC Cord plugs onto. Their is not a lot of components on it but it will cause this same symptom. This Board according to Sony at last inquiring is not available but they will refurbish it if you send it to them. The best way to do it is to work with a Sony Service Facility, have them come out and confirm it is bad, then they could send it in and reinstall it when it gets returned. ETA on something like this is 3-4 weeks.
I hope this helps,

Sony KP-51WS520 Stand by flashes 5 times

When a Sony TV flashes five times, that means that there is an AKB circuit fault.
This means that there is something wrong with the video.
When you get this error, several IC and components concerning the video signal must be tested and eventually replaced.
