That depends upon the device. In general, sim cards are located beneath the batteries. Your user manual might assist. If not, google the brand and model and "how to install a sim card in a..." and see what pops us. Here is a YouTube video of sim card installation in a specific phone:

This unit uses a Micro-SIM (3FF) SIM card. SIM Card slot is on the right side of the unit.

Its the card reader that needs drivers not the sim card.
just plug your adapter in and you need a program to read the sim card.

Installing the SIM Card
If your SIM card was not preinstalled, you must install the SIM card before you can use iPhone.

Install the SIM card:
1 Insert the end of the SIM eject tool into the hole on the SIM tray.
Press firmly and push it straight in until the tray pops out. If you don't have a SIM eject
tool, you can use the end of a paper clip.
2 Pull out the SIM tray and place the SIM card in the tray.
The angled corner of the SIM ensures that the card fits only the correct way in the tray.
3 With the tray aligned as shown, carefully replace the SIM tray containing the SIM card
in iPhone.

i have some tips on how to install sim card on your cellphone:

Install SIM card
1. Make sure that the cover of the connector
panel is closed.
2. Slide the phone open.
3. Open the SIM card compartment (1) on
the back of the slide
4. Slide the metal SIM card holder towards
the compartment lid to release it (2).
5. Open the SIM card holder.
6. Insert the SIM card in the holder as shown (cut corner at
the upper right).
7. Close the SIM card holder, and press it down slightly.
8. To lock the SIM card holder, slide it away from the
compartment lid (1).
9. Close the SIM card compartment (2).

You could try to remove your sim card.
Install battery and turn on phone without sim card.
Use phone without sim card and do some operations.
This will check if you phone is working correctly.
Turn phone off and install sim card.
Made sure sim card is install correctly.
If this does not work, it could be the sim card is bad.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Remove the SIM card and wipe the gold metal on the SIM with a clean cloth.
2. Re-insert the SIM card.

If the phone still ask to install the SIM, then try another SIM to isolate the problem. If same problem occurs, contact an authorized repair shop and have them repair the SIM card slot.
