Toshiba TV CX2789K Horizontal Line

Hello
When I turn on the TV I get one Horizontal Line Across the screen that is about 2 inches wide.
I also get a few more smaller Horizontal lines starting at the center of the screen to the top of the screen.

I can hear the sound correctly and I can see a picture that is compressed in the 2 inch horizontal line.

Can you help with a Diagnosis and where I should start replace any bad components.

Thanks

    Thanks for the help.
The TV that has the problem I would like to attempt to fix it my self or through it out.
I am some what technical but have never tackled a TV.
I have experience with Scopes and Fluke meters for my other hobbies.
I have also acquired the schismatics for this set.
So thanks for pointing me in the right direction of the vertical deflection amplifier section.

Failure in the vertical deflection amplifier section. This is usualy from failed components, and sometimes cold solder connections. Most of the time, I found bad capacitors, and sometimes the output IC or transistors (depending on the model type) that have failed.

Take the set to a service center for an estimate. You may find it more feasible to buy a new set depending on the parts that failed and the time involved to do the work.

Pink/Blue horizontal line on TV

Considering it is a 32 inch set and costs now under 300 dollars it may or may not be worth fixing.

To give an educated guess: either whatever it uses for an inverter board may be bad or damaged OR even the main board that processes all signal into or out to the screen may have either a bad connection(unlikely but possible) or be causing this.

A fatal issue could be something wrong in the screen unit (panel) itself.

I gather set is not under any warranty at this time.

Ps 27123 have sound, tuning etc only small horizontal color band

Hello bdedrick708,

If what you are trying to say is that you have a 1/4 inch horizontal line across your screen, this means that something in your vertical deflection circuit has failed. This could be the vertical oscillator, the vertical output processor, the vertical coupling capacitor, or the vertical section of the yoke transformer.

If what you are talking about is a vertical line from top to bottom then you are possibly talking about a failed horizontal section of the yoke transformer.

Why so little about the horizontal section of the yoke? That is because if the horizontal section fails completely then you would lose high voltage and no line would be present because you would not have raster (screen light).

In any even check the yoke transformer first. Then work back from there.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

JVC TV 27" Black line on top of screen

This is for the original problem.. Not the second post.

It's a problem in the horizontal deflection circuit. The parts will be available, but you will be in for some daignostic repairs also to find out why it failing or if it has failed on it's own.
There should be a few caps near the IC (an LA7840) that could also be causing the problem. Click the link, it will make it easier to locate the part inside.

This is the kind of repair best left to a TV tech, but get it done now and it won't cost anywhere near as much as it will later.
