Brother printer HL2040

The printer makes a knocking noise and does not ptint

The printer makes a knocking noise, the red "paper" light stays on and does not print.

Try changing the toner cartridge.
If you are useing refill cartridges and the roller starts to cease
up, the printer still trys to drive it and causes all sorts of problems.The worst thing that can happen is that the drive
gear inside the printer shatters and you will be unable to remove
the drum & toner consumables.

I've configured my desktop Brother HL2040 to share but I can't print from my laptop.

Make sure you've got the firewall set to allow printing on the computer working as a print server.

Another simple solution is to pick up an ethernet or wireless print server unit. It's going to cost more, but it's typically very reliable, and doesn't depend on another computer for printing.

How ever if you have a scanner you can scan the original and print it on the printer

HL2040 drum light is lit and printer not working. There is a new cartridge in place.

Replace the drum. It is the device that the toner cartridge sits in. You can also take out the drum and see if there is a 'slide' that cleans the drum, slide it back and forth several times and make sure it is 'locked' into the park area. Also refer to Brother manual or their web site for further answers.

You can down load the driver from the Brother Printers Site. Go to support in Brother Printer Web site and click on drivers. Select your printer model and then down load.

Both are available on the brother website. You have to click on downloads, because it needs your operating system.

I have a Brother HL2040 laser printer which jams every 10 - 15 pages of print. I have checked the paper path and there is no debris, checked the paper tray and that is set properly. I'm stumped.

it may be the drum issue . replace the drum.

Make sure to clean all the rollers you can see and make sure to check the paper sensor, and clean all rollers and paper paths with some Isopropyl Alcohol (AKA rubbing alcohol)
