G85 not being recognized by computer

I was given a G85 that appears to be is great condition, but when I hooked it up to my new XP Pro computer, the computer does not see it and will not recognize it at all. I forced a manual install of the software but the computer still does not recognize it. I have tried sending test pages but nothing happens. Ideas?

Do you have the Software/Install CD that came with it? Does the CD cover Windows XP? The original G85 software was only for Windows 98. Later, they finally developed the software to cover Windows XP.

My office jet G85 won't print. No error messages appear,it has a new color cartridge,it copies, but won't print from my computer.

If it copies ok, then the issue is either the way it is cabled to computer or the print driver software settings on pc.... How is it connected via USB? Check port and correct driver is in windows/control panel/printers. Reinstall.

OfficeJet G85 Makes Unreadable Copies

Usually, it's the print cartridge. I recently installed a new black cartridge on a 6110 printer and it, too, was very faint in printing. It turned out to be "dried up", even though it was a new cartridge in a sealed bag (but purchased in 2005).

G85 prints too slowly

This problem depends on several things. Do you have the most compatible driver for your computer? Go to www.hp.com and check for driver downloads that will work best with your OS.
How fast is the document spooling to the printer? If there are alot of graphics in it, that takes time. What software are you using and how old is it? What condition is your USB cable in?
Once the printer receives the document, how fast is it printing? If it's having trouble gripping the paper, you may want to clean the rollers. I have had this model for 6 years and it still does a great job.

Officejet G85 printer

If you previously were using a parallel connection for the G85 you will need a USB cable.

If your laptop is running Vista the G85 will work as a printer, I do not think there is a scanner driver for Vista for the G85. The G85 print driver is built into VIsta, you only need to turn on the printer and install the USB to have the printer automatically installed.

Computer recognizing device

Same thing happened to my Powersgot SD450. I'll tell you what the Best Buy Geek Squad guy told me: If it's off warranty, the repair will be about as much as a new camera. But, for $20, you can buy a USB memory card reader that will still read the card. I bought the card reader. It works great.
