Samsung CLX-3160 FN

I bought a refurb printer 5 mo ago, quite suddenly the black print quality deteriorated - as if the rpinter had run out of toner. I replaced the toner cartridge but that did not help. I tried shaking the toner, air clean the green image head. This has not helped either. Please advise

Our printer at work has the same problem with black ink quality. I just put in a fresh black ink cartridge and shook the others and emptied the toner tray and still my blacks are printing like grays and some areas are faded all together and unreadable. This is driving me nuts, not to mention it looks terrible.

Brand new unit installed by professional, after a month or so black image quality deteriorated. contacted Samsung support who suggested replacing black toner (original shipping toner cartridges have about 20%). Replaced with original new black toner but the problem has not been resolved!

So far this printer has printed 792 pages!

    Would appreciate any solutions!

We bought a CLX-3160 from Circuit City (online store) about a month ago. Initially we were getting a "toner supply error" message about every 30 pages or so. Turning the printer off for a bit and then back on seemed to fix it. Now the print quality is just bad no matter what we do. There are light areas and dark areas on any given page. Will have to call Samsung or Circuit City to get it fixed.

At first, there's an error message which says "Replace/Install Waste Toner Tank". So we tried to clean/vacuum the tank. After installing it back, and tried to self-print test, no print-out on paper but feeds it.

me too!  Don't buy this cheapo printer!

Black is printing lines of gray and the blue is very blotchy with lines of white running through it. The printer was installed new and has only printed 150 pages so far.

We also have the same Problem. The printer is just over 6 months old and this is the seond time we have changed the Black ink (The first time replacing the small ink tank they give you when you buy the printer). Our printer is essential to our business and this issue is driving everyone crazy.

Tried replacing the black toner but still not working properly. It is only the black. The other colors work perfectly. Also tried cleaning the printer but that did not help at all. Any ideas??? Thanks

There are both hardware and software problems with this printer.

After 3 visits by their Service organisation they gave up. I am now stuck with a non-functional printer.

I am verry sorry that I bought this brand instead of the wellknown ones...

I bought CLX-3160 little over a year ago. It worked for about six months. After that it had nothing but problems. I have been through 3 imaging units and multiple black cartridge's and still it does not print right.Samsung's warranty and supports are poor. I would not recommend this even to my enemies.

I've owned this printer for 1 year and I've replaced the black toner twice. The black image has faded so much that it's difficult to read. Only the black. I love the versatility, but the print quality is embarrasing for my business.

Easily Solved! I've got the the Samung CLX-2160 and I have was getting the same message "Replace/install Waste Toner Tank". The first thing I asked myself was, what is the 'Waste Toner Tank'? After typing in into google, I realised that the 'Waste Toner Tank' is the grey colored part located to the left (If you're facing it) of the toners barrel. So all you need to do is take the Waste Tone Tank out, shake out all the waste tone from it and replace it. Your printer will be up and running like the first time!!!

You almost certainly need to replace the drum, which runs about $95 and is guaranteed for a year. It's considered a consumable, just as toner is, but so far I've only found them online. I had the same trouble and spent SEVEN WEEKS going round and round with Samsung, since my printer was under warranty. I still haven't received my drum, and I have certainly used far fewer copies than the 20,000 the drum should have handled. But I've been told by Office Depot that the drums that come with the machines aren't of as good a quality (and don't last as long) as the ones you'll buy after that. There is a way to know for certain, if it's the drum, if you have it hooked up to a computer.

This is a common problem with these printers...it is usually due to the mainboard itself and\or the imaging unit going bad, which means your only option is to rma it to samsung which, for the record, is no fun at all. Just to prepare you...expect to be calling them a LOT as they never returned my calls nor emails at all, at any point during the 3 months(!!) it took to get mine through the rma process. It is unfortunate, but they have a poor customer service policy apparently. Also, they will want you to replace black ink cartridge, clean it, etc before they do anything so be sure to tell them if you already have done so.
On a final note, and I really probably shouldn't say this....but I ended up replacing mine with a xerox. No problems whatsoever since.

Fine horizontal dashes in black have begun appearing all over the pages whether I print in b&w or color. This gets worse with each page in a long document. Samsung CLX-3160.

Your problem is the black toner cartridge pickup drum has become scratched and is depositing "extra" black toner onto the paper prior to the fuser roller. you need to replace the drum and all should be ok then

My Samsung CLX-3160FN has stopped printing colour. I have changed all the cartridges and it will copy in colour, but prints in black and white.

You need to check your document print settings on your PC. Drill through the printer properties menu until you get to the colour settings. At a guess you currently have it set to "Greyscale" rather than colour or auto.

I have a samsung clx-3160fn printer. All toners are ok, espcecially the black one - BUT when I print black&white doc, it is comign out really faded - as if the black toner is low. BUT it is not!! ...

Go to printer properties and check whether you have selected print in grey mode and also check whether you have selected the economic mode. Rectify the same will solve your problem.

MESSAGE REPLACE/ INSTALL TONER WASTE TANK EVEN THOGHT I HAVE REPLACE IT ON A SAMSUNG CLX-3160 FN

When this happened, I took the tank out and shook it out into a garbage can (do this outside and be very careful not to breathe the dust). I then took a shop vac and held the hose at the opening while blowing compressed air into the tank. Wiggle the air nozzle around and you'll get out 99% of the toner. Pay extra attention to the sensor optics (plastic bulges on the sides of the tank). These need to be clean since the printer knows when the tank is full because the toner blocks light shining from one side of the tank to the other

Reinstall the tank and be sure it is fully inserted. If they printer is still on, turn it OFF. Close the front door of the machine and turn it back on.

Continue printing.

We have the samsung clx 3160 fn laser printer and the ink is really low and needs to be refilled. Is this something that we need to have a tech service it or can we do it ourselves, also how do we change...

You can buy toner cartridges to this machine and fix the problem yourselves. Go to any office supply store and they will have toner cartridges for the Samsung clx 3160. The display will flash the name fo the cartridge color that needs to be replaced. Just open the front door of the machine, pull out the empty cartridges and pop in the new ones.
