Okay so a few months back i bought an RCA opal model M4002 and it worked fine the first day and the next day it wouldnt turn on anymore! i would've taken it back but i had lost the things that it came with and by the time i found it the warrenty expired. When i do try turning it on it says "Profiling requires 4 MB free space." My computer doesn't read so i connected it to another comp and it seemed to work. So at this point im very confused on whats going on with it. Do you have any idea whats going on?
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

I am not a tech but I am not tech challenged. If you have not had this device that long and still have the reciept, TAKE IT BACK. I am on my 3rd one and these things are not very well made. The first one I had the screen got lines in it and started turning black around the edges in about 2 weeks. The second one I had developed the problem you are having talked to tech support at RCA their fix was "That's strange I never heard of that happening before". Walmart took that one back. This one actually lasted a few months but the screen started blanking out, music still played however. Two days ago I charged it when I disconnected it from the computer it came on. I shut it down to use later. It has not come on since. Contacted RCA who's fix this time is if you have the receipt (I do not) send it in they will take a look at it (you pay shipping). If you have no receipt then ship it back but they will charge $55.

The same thing happened to me.(I have a different model but I'm sure you can solve it the same) Go to the website and download the frimware thing and it will completly clean your MP3 of data you added. At least it did for me.
