Make sure that the router and the wireless computer has the same wireless settings. That is assuming that the wireless adapter has been correctly installed on the computer.

If you have questions just ask me and ill answer you as soon as I can.

Wireless button

The T30 laptops do not have a on/off button that turns the wireless card on.
Once the wireless card driver is installed the wireless card will detect any wireless router and access point within its range. You need to configure the wireless card to connect into the wireless router or access point eg. the encryption, SSID etc.
The Thinkpad laptops have different wireless LAN cards installed, when you install a wireless card driver and it doesn't work, then install a different model wireless card driver. Also make sure the XP or Vista version of the wireless driver matches the Windows version that is installed on the laptop.

Netgear usb adapter will not acquire ip address from router

Most laptops have a wireless card built in them and if you have one you should try using that instead and form past experiences USB adapters don't generally work on laptops in which case if you laptop has the slot for it you should buy a card like this http://www.netgear.com/Products/Adapters/SuperGWirelessAdapters/WG511T.aspx

WG511T network card problem

WEP and WAP mmmmmm.
So WEP is Wireless Encryption Protocol and WAP is Wireless Application Protocol. WAP is used in cell phones so i am presuming you actually mean WPA?
If so....
The wg511t provides the highest available level of industry standard 128-bit WEP encryption, and it’s
upgradable to Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security.
Here are the instructions to enable WPA.
http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101675.asp
WPA is set from the router so if it is not supported on the router it is not supported on your card.
It is router dependant.
What router do you have.
Let me know if this is helpful at all.

Can't see any wireless networks in the area, but I know there are many

Can your other laptop see the laptop with the problem. First check that it is being given an IP address in your router and set to obtain IP address automatically. You may need to give the wireless card an ip address and DNS address yourself within the same range as the others; this way you know the addresses are correct. Just check that your problem laptop has the same network group name, right click my computer>properties>computer name and check the workgroup name is tha same as rest of your pc's. Keep trying you'll win in the end!
