Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

Can't get my computer to reconize my seagate harddrive

If the seagate is your primary drive, use a different one to boot up the system and then use an adapter to connect the seagate as a secondary drive, and see if your system will recognize it that way. If it's already a secondary drive, try removing it and see if it can be detected on another computer as a portable HDD. If not, then maybe your problem is that the Seagate has finally "bit the dust".

Just bought the GoFLex Pro 750 GB. I have two PCs, both on XP... neither can see the HD via my computer... I have done a check via computer managment and it says the HD is fine... but it is not...

Hi, Thanks for using fixya.

Remove any usb devices from your computer other than your Free agent then reboot the computer see if it is reconized and it is useable. Then plug in your other devices one at a time make sure you see the Your device is ready to use. If your Free Agent is not reconized got to Seagate.com search for your device driver. Remember when you want to pull out any usb device make sure you remove it throught windows first. Fastest way is to go in My Computer or Computer right click on the device and choose eject. After the name changes to removable device it is safe to pull our.

Hope this helps,

Terry

Have seagate free agent go window 7 not reconizing the unit. please help.

Hi,

You can try to use a different usb port of your computer check if it will be detected or try to plugged a different usb device see if it will be detected by the computer. If you have a different computer try to check if it will be detected. If the computer detects a different device it only means that the hard drive that you are connecting to the computer is faulty.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Making noice like it wont start up and computer not reconicing it hte light goes on and off but power is going through it

Try using Seatools, a free diagnostic and repair utility which can be downloaded from Seagate. If the disc fails the tests it may also be able to automatically check your warranty and advise on return

Hi, i have the noted type hard drive and i have just moved house. since then my hard drive wont connect to my pc. the light comes on and every thing looks ok but she wont connect. my other hard drive works...

does it just beep and is not reconized by your P.C.? if so continue to read,
If you get no joy using the Troubleshooting Guide then try this...

don't worry if you are a novice like me, the thread is very easy to follow.
Look inside your P.C. 1st to check SATA data connection type.
eSATA is a different connection from SATA so you might need an eSATA data lead if you follow the guide in the link, not sure if it just external connections only and plain SATA connection inside.
Google image 'eSATA' data lead/cable and you will see the difference between the eSATA and SATA connection if you don't already know.
My neighbour has the Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB, and in under 2 weeks it started to beep and was not reconized by any Laptop or P.C. if this is the same for you with any FreeAgent Desk series ( not GO series, different procedure for GO products). You maybe in luck click this link, you may have to register in the forums to view thread.... http://www.yo-lid.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=84 Thread can be found in 'Technical' under 'General Technical Issues'

New hard drive not reconized, motherboard drivers

I had this problem on a computer recently. This particular motherboard may be needing the driver on the Windows XP SP2 disk. Your motherboard may have been made to use Microsoft SATA drivers. Othewise, there would have been a driver disk that came with the motherboard to let it see that SATA hard drive.
If it's a new hard drive, you have to reinstall the O/S so use a disk new enough to have SP2 included.

How to install a new seagate hard drive?

I have one thats ide ultra, & my computers see it as a disc drive, like a cd drive when i put it in an external seagate case. but when i put it in as an internal it shows up in cmos w/ 320 g space, & no matter which pin config i use it doesnt show when the os is booted. I enabled LBA like it says on the drive, & tried all the other options in CMOS & havent got it to go yet, but it sounds like its running perfectly when it powers up. it'll go, but its actin crazy. ill post it when i get that bastard.
