How to stop auto shut down on VP-W70, when in standby mode camcorder switches off after several minutes even when on the power supply. Is there an option to prevent this? I'd like to record straight into my video recorder from the VP-W70, this limits the time I can record. thanks

Yes I know what you mean, there should be an over-ride in your menu setting to turn power save off.

How do I stop my tablet from turning the power off completely when on standby

Years ago, when tablets first came out....there was not an auto power down mode and people complained they were having to charge it up too often.
After it was added, people complained that the tablet shut down.

Go into your settings and look to see if there is a switch for auto power off. I don't think you can disable it but you can set it to several hours at least.

Sagem 45 inch rear projection tv keeps switching off

It is most likely some bad capacitors on the power supply board that are causing it to go into "safety mode" and shuts it down.

Auto power off

No you can't turn off this feature

Nathan Petersen June 17th, 2005, 04:03 PM Is there away to turn the auto power off off. I dont think there is, just thought I'd ask, thanks. Don Palomaki June 17th, 2005, 08:47 PM Not on the original XL1. It will drop into STANDBY from PAUSE if there is a tape in the transport after around 5 minutes. If there is NOT a tape in the camcorder it will not not drop into STANDBY but will remain operating as a camera. Xander Christ June 17th, 2005, 09:25 PM Canon suggests that the only way to keep the XI from shutting off is to use the AC adapter as the power source, not the battery. I haven't tried it, so I don't know if it's true. Don Palomaki June 18th, 2005, 07:33 AM True - in that when using the battery, the camcorder will shut down when the battery runs out of available charge. However, using the A/C adapter does not prevent the XL1 from going into standby if a tape is in the camcorder. Nathan Petersen June 18th, 2005, 04:52 PM Canon suggests that the only way to keep the XI from shutting off is to use the AC adapter as the power source, not the battery. No it still does it with the AC adapter, Im not even using the battery. It makes no sense to have the auto power off when shooting indoors while using the AC adapter, its just stupid. Don Palomaki June 19th, 2005, 05:59 AM Again, the key point is having a tape in the XL1. After about 5 minuts it goes into Standby mode (not the same as turning the power off with the dial). This is a carryover from pure consumer camcorders - to save battery and reduce damage to tape and head wear from a camcorder left in pause mode for a long time.

Pro users complained, so the XL1s had an option to disable this feature so that only the tape transport (VCR portion) is turned off after 5 minutes, the camera head continues to run. link to above thread

Switching from auto to manual focus

AF/MF (Auto Focus/Manual Focus) * The AF/MF function works in CAMERA, M.REC mode only. * In most situations, it is better to use the automatic focus feature, as it enables you to concentrate on the creative side of your recording. * Manual focusing may be necessary under certain conditions that make automatic focusing difficult and/or unreliable. Auto Focusing * If you are inexperienced in the use of camcorders, we recommend that you make use of Auto Focus. Manual Focusing In the following situations, you may obtain better results by adjusting the focus manually: * A picture containing several objects, some close to the camcorder, others further away. * A person enveloped in fog or surrounded by snow. * Very shiny or glossy surfaces like a car. * People or objects moving constantly or quickly like an athlete or a crowd. Follow These Simple Steps To Set The Manual Focus 1. Set the power switch to CAMERA mode. 2. Turn the MENU DIAL up or down until the FOCUS is highlighted and then press the ENTER button. M. FOCUS(MF) will display. 3. Turn the MENU DIAL up or down until the object is in focus. Zoom out a little if focusing is difficult. 4. To return to AF (Auto Focus: ), press the ENTER button again.
