How to Stop the Red Ring of Death on Xbox?

Hi Carolyn,
- notice poor game performance (if your games start taking a long time to load, or they become stutter or crash, it may be indicative of a looming hardware failure)
-notice poor system performance (if your system locks up, even when not playing games, this is a sign of hardware failing).
- understand the different light codes
Green-green lights indicate that console is powered and operating properly
1 red light-Hardware fault. Usually followed by E74 code on TV
2 red lights-overheating error. If the console becomes too hot, the system will shut down and display this light code
3 red lights-general hardware failure also known as the red ring of *****
4 red lights-AV cable isnt currently plugged in

If you do get red ring of *****:
- purchase a fix kit
-have console professionally fixed
-have console sent in to microsoft
-Prevent red ring of *****-understand what causes hardware failure
-keep your system in a well ventilated area
- avoid long gaming sessions
-keep system horizontal
-avoiding stacking items on xbox
-clean gaming area
-dust xbox

My x box 360 alite keeps crashing... white lines come up on screen..

Do you have red flashing lights on your console? This sounds like it could be a problem with the heating elements in the system. There are ways to fix it but unfortunatly you prob will have to take it to someone with 360 experience or send it off to microsoft for repairs. If you are getting red lights you should be getting one, two, three or four of them and that will narrow down what is wrong with your system.

I keep getting three red rings in the part where it shows how may controllers are playing and i can't get any of my games to play or my controllers to work

Three lights flash red on the Ring of Light (RoL) on the front of your Xbox 360 console. The upper-right quadrant light is the only light that does not flash red. The three flashing red lights may indicate that there is a hardware problem with your Xbox 360 console.

You can try one or two things.

1. Turn on your xbox and check to see if the power supply light is green. If it is green there is a problem with the system. If it is red it means you should check your connections and restart the xbox.

2. These rings have a tendency of meaning that there is a problem with the system itself. Most companies sell extra insurance to cover this "ROL" Ring of life. You can contact Microsoft by calling them. The number is usually listed on the back of the video game booklets.

I wish you the best and I hope this resolved your problem

My xbox360

There are two possiblities one is that your hard drive on your system has corrupt data on it. try taking off your hard drive and playing Forza 2 if it works fine then delete all the information on your hard drive. If that doesnt work then refer down.

The second possibilty is an issue that leads to the red ring of death. There is general hardware failure going on. If you have a warranty with the store you bought it from i would suggest using it. if not you can call MS and see if your system is still under warranty.

There are a few fix it yourself manuals out there but if you dont know much about electronics i would let the pros handle it.

Xbox 360

Unfortunately this is a very touchy situation. There is one home method for curing this problem.

1). Wrap your Xbox 360 Console COMPLETELY with a towel, so you can only see the power button, and the three flashing red lights.

2). Power on your console.

3). Leave for 30-45 minutes.

4). Power off the console.

5). Unwrap the towel from the console.

6). Power on.

**Problem Solved** If not continue reading.

After that you are unfortunately forced to call the dreaded Microsoft Customer Support Line

1-800-4-MY-XBOX
1-800-469-9269

And ask to create a repair order, they will send you a Purolator (or FedEx) shipping box. You have to send your console to them, they will repair it and have it to you within (2-3 business weeks).
