There may be a power supply or cooling fault for the lamp. This would have to be serviced by a service rep for your set.

I have no idea of the cost of the bulb for your set. But I can tell you that from what I see, if you use the set a lot of hours it will become very expensive to use. Because of the heat and cooling problems, the failure rate of the support circuitry for projection TV sets is higher than the normal sets.

I would suggest to service the set, put it up for sale, and get a Plasma or LCD type set. Over the long run LCD and Plasma sets are very maintenance free. Take an exended warranty with the set for insurance just in case something major goes on it. Over its lifetime it will still come out cheaper and more dependable than a projection set, and it will have much sharper pictures.

I think that you have a problem with your ballast board this is the power source to the lamp if for any reason it starts to wear out or weak it will not be able to turn on your lamp check this link out it is about Toshiba lawsuit

No picture, siren type noise as restarting

My Toshiba dlp 62hm116 was used for 3 months then stored for 2 years, I turned it on yesterday and it makes a loud grinding noise which I think is probably from the exhaust fan area and the picture is black except white at both vertical sides. It worked fine the last time I used it 2 years ago. Any ideas?

Samsung DLP turns on and off - cycle repeats

make sure put the lamp door back before trying to turn it on because they have switches on them that allow the tv to turn on. If that is ok you probably have a bad ballast.
Call a local tv repair shop to further diagnose the problem.

Sounds like the color wheel may have also gone bad. I recently saw a 56" Samsung where the bulb and color wheel went at the same time. The color wheel could produce a crying noise while trying to spin up.

Problem with Toshiba DLP Projection TV Model #52HM84

It is possible the lamps may be defective or that they may be the wrong replacement for this model, as it may have a different wattage setup with the ballast. If you want to try to order the TB25 lamp from a different vendor, you can order the original Toshiba replacement lamp for this model (52HM84) from a major Toshiba parts distributor at the link below:

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
