Why are my ice cubes coming out of the automatic ice maker in a very thin state and almost completely hollow? I recently put a new water filter on the back of the frig and that when it all started. At the same time the cooper pipe at the point where it comes out of the wall was leaking and we stopped that with a connctor kind of gadget. But why the thin cubes. I know the filter was working as soon as we installed it for it produced completely solid blackish cubes contain the new carbon in the filter. Please help !

My automatic ice maker has produced hollow cubes, foul tasting cubes and now they just made cubes with a green color in the middle. What's up?

Hollow cubes usually caused by lack of enough water during fill. My guess is green is mold buildup. Check house water supply to refrigerator. Sometimes the little shut off valves for the refrigerator block up and need cleaned or replaced. Once you get proper size cubes, if taste/ color problem persists they sell small in line filters you can add in the water line to the refrigerator.(about $25.)

Frigidaire side by side with ice maker .. ice maker jams and quits making ice

Hi,
Hollow ice cubes are a result of lack of water to ice maker. This can be caused by lack of water pressure (clogged filter, bad water valve, obstructed fill tube, etc..) you will need to find the cause to correct this hollow ice cube issue. The ice maker should take on 5.5 oz of water when it cycles (2/3 cup). Mot of the time its a water supply issue and the line could be kinked behind the unit as it was rolled back into place.

Good Luck

Slow ice cycle

Are you having any temperature related symptoms, i.e., soft ice cream that appears to have melted slightly and refrozen, soft breads in the freezer, warm or hot outer surfaces anywhere? If cooling is not a problem whatsoever, are any of your ice cubes smaller than normal, or do you have hollow ice cubes; you would be able to crush the cubes in your hand? If either of these pertains to you, you have not enough water coming to the ice maker, due to a faulty water valve not opening completely, or your water source pressure is low. disconnect your water line from the fridge, test pressure of the water line by placing end in a bucket, turning water on. It will be obvious how the pressure is. if pressure is good to really good, you have a bad water valve on the fridge. If pressure is so-so to bad, change source water valve.
If cubes are not small nor hollow, but rather normal full size cubes, just not enough, you probably have an intermittent problem with your icemaker, replace that.

My GE Profile refrig ice maker makes hollow ice cubes. Why would this happen?

Not enough water is being pumped into the icemaker. The water pressure in the water line coming into the refrigerator may be too low, perhaps due to a blockage somewhere.

Move the refrigerator enough to get behind it. Turn off the water at the small valve which connects the water line from the house plumbing to the tube going into the refrigerator. Get a bucket. Remove the refrigerator water line from the on-off valve (there should be a compresson nut holding it on). Point the incoming water line into the bucket and open the valve. Do you have a good flow of water? If so, either there is a blockage in the tubing within the refrigerator or the water valve at the bottom of the back of the refrigerator is malfunctioning.

THIN OR HOLLOW ICE

Freezer too cold and not much water. When it is empty of ice check the water level in the ice tray. Probably not even halfway up. Unplug fridge for 8 hours and plug it back in. Need more help please live chat. If this has helped, please rate as fixya.

Ice maker quit making ice

your refrig has a built in bypass in the filter housing so yes it will work with out a filter in place. if you have not replaced your filter in the last 6 months that is likely the problem. Hollow cubes are usually a sign of not enough water getting into the icemaker then it cycles too fast and harvests hollow cubes.

when the hollow cubes fall into your bucket they bust and put water in with your cubes freezing them together. so by solving your water supply problem you'll solve most of your icemaking issues..

Admiral Refrigerator makes hollow ice

Hollow ice cubes are due to low water pressure to the fridge. Water thru the door should have good pressure behind it. This is a good indicator of water pressure. Should be able to fill a glass quickly. Causes for low pressure are self-piercing saddle valves on the water line (switch to drill type (1/4") valve) or reverse osmosis system or filtering system on water line to the fridge. R.O. systems should not be used. Increase water pressure and that will fix the hollow cubes. The loud noise may be the sound of the water valve on the fridge when it is acivated. This sound is normal and some are louder than others.
