Hi, Do you have to play the Sony CDX-454RF thru your car radio or can you just hard-wire it to your speakers and amps.Putting in a vintage car that doesnt have a radio in it.. Thanks, George

There should be a separate controller for the changer in the vehicle. The radio will have to be set to a certain station in order to listen to it, Somewhere from 88.0 to 90 or so. Try finding the control unit first and see if it plays (it should show the song progressing). If it does, you may be able to seek to find out what station it is playing on.
E 04 means it can't read the disc. You can try to run an optical cleaner thru it, just make sure you use one that has fluid. They sell for 20 or so anywhere. Beyond that, it would need a new optic. Hope this helps

For the stereo the following will work.
The changer has a mechanical slide system inside it. It may be binding up around those positions. You may want to take the cover off and reposition some of the excess grease into those slide tracks and try it again. Or you could just be happy with a functioning 7 CD changer.
You can order them on-line from Sony Parts and Accessories - and they are reasonably priced - around $35. I just ordered one last week and received it already!
