Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 5738Z laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium and have the infamous "plugged in not charging" problem. The laptop is 10 months old and started having problems around 4 months ago (conveniently right after the warranty for the battery ran out). Basically after a full charge my battery only lasts for about 5 minutes. When I unplug it it's on 100% charge, than after 2 minutes it's only around 40% and within 5 minutes it's completely dead. I've tried the power drain (take battery out, press power button for 2 minutes, put battery back in, charge, drain completely, repeat) a few times but it didn't make any difference. I've also tried the battery driver update in the Device Manager, no luck. Is there anything else I can do before forking out £100 for a new battery? Thanks.
Sorry. It seems that your battery is dead.
If your laptop is working fine on AC power only (with the battery disconnected), then your battery will need to be replaced.
