My swift 92 engine caught fire after short circuit as soon as I stopped from a very short trip. Fire was put out but wires & rubber tubes were damaged. Car even re-started after this incident. The electrician just repaired the wires. Should I get the engine wiring replaced totally, as I'm not confident enough now about safety of repaired wiring? Any other checkup suggestion?

FIRST... be advised: What you are describing is
likely a HARD CIRCUIT fault... (the wires) which
can easily cause temperatures sufficient to MELT
the conductors...

UNLESS YOU HAVE A FIRE-FIGHTER standing
by with an AXE... you probably want to stop
testing by putting in MORE FUSES

If you have a TRANSFORMER HARDWIRED into this
branch circuit... Now would be the time to remove it.

Then have a QUALIFIED volt-ohm meter operator
clear the continuity between the HOT & the NEUTRAL
(or ground) before you burn the whole place down.

The PRIMARY purpose of ALL CIRCUIT BREAKERS
(fuses included) are to open the CURRENT FLOW
before a FIRE or MELT-DOWN opens the conductor
in it's weakest spot.

Temperatures necessary to melt insulation & ignite
wood are very low...

STOP TESTING with fuses...!!

Theory: The light/electronics in the mirror shorted, causing the wires to smoke and catch fire. The fuse for the light blew, so the radio and windows on that fuse don't work.
Suggestion, remove the wires going to the mirror and replace the fuse.

All circuits ultimatey are completed to earth (negative) so this can sometimes trick you. Try to isolate portions of the circuit that you are testing and then use your meter to check for continuity to ground. A tripped circuit breaker usually indicates a dead short. Look for bare wire making unwanted contact. More info about what you are working on would help

mmm.. did the fuse start blowing after you did something or worked on the truck? sounds to me like there's a wire very well connected in the wrong place. I know it sounds funny, but what I mean is that a simple short would not set on fire, but instead eat the wire gradually with every spark. in order for it to catch on fire it needs to be bolted in the wrong place. the other wires can be restored after you find the wire that's causing the short.

DASH HAS A SHORT CIRCUIT.DASH NEED REPLACING BUT CHECK FOR SHORTS IN THE WIRES TO DASH.DONT PUT A LARGER AMP FUSE IN A CIRCUIT TO KEEP FROM BLOWING FUSE BECAUSE IF FUSE DONT BLOW WIRES GET HOT IN THE CIRCUIT THAT HAS A SHORT IN IT AND CAUSE A CAR FIRE.

I guess the next question to answer your question would be; Why did you drive with the air cleaner assembly off the engine and Did you leave it under the hood while you drove? For some reason, I do not think two sentences is explaining the entire story.

sounds like the cold start sensor has failed. it is on the left side if the throttle body just below the air filter body(right side if you are stood at front of car looking into engine compartment)has a green connector.unplug this connector and carefully shorrt it with a piece of electrical wire i.e.connect the 2 wires together.the car should start normally when cold-this shold prove that the sensor has failed in which case it needs to be replaced.if this does not work it is not the sensor.
do not leave the wire shorting the connector as your car will run with a higher tick over and have less engine braking and there is a danger of short circuit which is potentially dangerous

cannot be specific, had a 98 (now a 99). remember they fire twice- compression and exhaust. if you don't get and answer soon, look up firing order and everyother one should fire together, limiting combinations to two. It doesn't care what stroke it is on

Hello, nothing to my knowledge is factory. After market music AMP or security system? Any markings remaining on box? Perhaps followings wire down to where it goes could be of help. Does the car still run okay?
