Absolutely. Pentax only guarantee compatibility of their cameras with their own lenses as long as they're contemporary to the model you're using.

Other manufacturers make lenses which will physically fit your camera, but now that all communication between the body and lens is electronic they're not always fully compatible especially as the camera manufacturer often changes the technical specifications.

Check with Tamron: it's not unusual to have to send your lens back for an update to ensure compatibility with the latest models.

I own a Tamron SP 80-210 adaptall II len with Pentax mount. I currently own a Nikon 7000. Can I use the Tamron with the Nikon by adding a adaptor? Any suggested adaptor I should be using? Thanks

Hi, The focal distance on Pentax camera's is different then the focal distance on Nikon's so because of that Pentax lens' can't be adapted to work on a Nikon camera. I'd suggest finding a similar lens with a Nikon mount as cross brand mounting is quite difficult.

I have a slightly older version of this lens. It worked perfectly with my pentax KX the first time I attached the lens and powered on. I unattached and reattached the lens, and it no longer functions. The...

Okay did you happen to take the lens off without shutting the camera off? If so that's not a good idea. First thing I'd advise is to clean the lens contacts using a new red pencil eraser, lightly polish the gold contacts and clean the surface off with a lens cloth not a tissue. Next I'm not totally sure of the Pentax camera you have but does the camera control both the shutter speed and aperture? If so then the lens needs to be placed in the I'm going to say stopped down position before locking it to the camera, now that might be wrong so if it doesn't work then shut the camera off remove the lens and open the aperture to its wides point reinstall the lens and turn the camera on and try that. Sorry it's been a year since I used a Pentax and I'm going on memory. Another thing some older lenses although they fit the mount and appear to work may not actually work (depending on how old the 28-200 is) Some older technology in third party lenses can't keep up with the "new" cameras. In short the new camera may be able to look back in technology but the lens may not have the "chip" to look forward and the two are not compatible. I'm not saying this is the case here because you said it worked I'm thinking dirty contacts or the aperture ring was not set correctly.

My lens 28-75.Has worked fine for a year.

I have a lens like yours but mine ( I don't think) will fit a Pentax. I had the same problem. I thought it was the camera. So I took them both to the camera shop. When I was told that the lens was the problem I bought a new lens. I still have this one and if you find a fix for it I'd like to try it on mine.

My tamron lense is locked, I don't remember doing it as i don't know how, would like it unlocked?

If it's only two months old then it's still under the manufacturer's warranty so send it back to Tamron. I can't tell you where to send it as you haven't said which country you're in. Tamron value their reputation and usually provide excellent after-sales care.

If you're in the UK you additionally have Sale of Goods Act protection for up to six years in England and Wales and five years in Scotland. Either way, the Act allows you to demand a full refund or replacement from the retailer; I'd suggest a refund as bad lenses often come in batches and a different supplier is less likely to have one from the same production batch.

Note that any attempt to fix the lens other than by normal use of the lens and camera controls may completely remove your warranty benefits or consumer protection.

Minolta 7000 Maxxum

The Minolta Maxxum 7000 uses a Minolta A mount, which is also used on the Sony Alpha series, as they bought out Minolta's technology. All Maxxum lenses should work for the most part on the Sony Alpha series of DSLR's, including the autofocus.

On Camera Flash Problem and Lens Question

According to Pentax, the pop up flash does greatly reduce battery life. So, if you want them to last longer, use an external flash. The built-in flash is too low powered an too prone to produce red eyes to be of much use anyway. Any lens that goes from 28-300 is going to be much less sharp than one with a shorter zoom range, even if the lens designer uses such heroic measures as aspherical elements and LD glass. Consider the Tokina AT-X 24-200mm f/3.5-5.6 lens as a very good alternative to the Tamron.
