If this is a brand new camera, it should be under warranty...why do you say yours is not?

Did you put in the battery the right way? If yes, try cleaning the contact points on the battery.

You can download a copy of the manual from the manufacturer's web site at http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/manuals/

If the "!ZOOM ERROR" message is displayed on the digital camera, switch the camera off and on again 2 or 3 times.
If this does not clear the error, take the camera to your nearest FUJIFILM Service Station for testing and repairs. Problem may caused by lens zooming gears stuck.
