Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TRV208E Camcorder
Shaking the Handycam and lightly hitting it on the sides shpuld do the trick for you.... may sound un conventional but thats the cost effective way to rectify your problem....
I can tell you one of the dirty little secrets of the hardcore pros is
whacking the camera intelligently and judiciously is a common field
remedy. If you don't want to look unprofessional carry a small plastic
or rubber mallet like the doctor might use on your knee but the flat of
your hand is a much better tool. Lubricants dry out in the heat
connections expand and contract contamination migrates into the camera
with the tape too many more variables to mention here. Bottom line
whacking can often dislodge a stuck component in the loading mechanism
etc. On a recent episode of a toprated network home makeover show I
secretly whacked a pd150 (that was used inside the home under
demolition) to make it give up a tape that it wouldn't eject it went
right back into combat and performed flawlessly through endless hours
of 24/7 shooting. As for error codes they are no more accurate than
windows error messages you can get a head drum error code if the
loading mech doesn't finish threading the tape. Some of the worst
repair jobs I have ever had to deal with were from people who baby
their equipment use your gear frequently like your muscles they like
it. But never hit your camera in anger just like the real world it
doesn't fix anything.
These errors are also fixed by resetting the camera with
the power on. The reset button is located (very small) on the function
panel behind the LCD display. Activate with a pencil or similar.
IF IT STILL WONT WORK .....SENSOR(CHIP) UNDER DRUM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, costs abt $ 175
Good luck

It is not an academic solution but I will say a simple solution.
All Sony Error Codes 31:22 are solved by this way.
Try giving it a little slap on the tape side of the camera....IT WORKS!!!!
Believe or not but it will work.
Please look at the below link that is exactly dealing with your problem.

Thanks for your feedback I hoped.
Ok,
Please try to slap it again but do it gently and lovely. The solution of this series is this as I said and linked before. If the problem will not be fixed then you should bring your camcorder to the nearest authorized service center but you should know that they will take your $200-220.
Try to slap it with gently and lovely as I said before.
This will solve your problem.
I do not have additional knowledge about the subject.
Sorry. I have no idea to fix the problem.

Hi,
Answer in technical term of C:31:22 is, T-Reel fault, missing T-Reel hall IC pulse.
Remove battery/ power source from camcorder for minute, attach battery/ power source and check. If this does not solve the issue, then user level fix is, tap few times with palm on bottom and top of camera, many times it cures the problem, but proper fix needs to take it in to local camera repair shop.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Hi Eileen deasl,
It's a common Sony error code, usually involves the take-up reel, the tape maybe slacked a bit.
Tighten the tape by doing a FF (Fast Forward) and RW (Rewind).
Sometimes the cassette gets packed to one side, smack the cassette against a flat surface lightly on both sides.
Check if it only happens with one tape, if yes, then don't use it.
If it happens all the time you may need to take your device to a service center for repair.
If you have a problem clearing the error use the little reset button under the LCD panel.
Thanks for using Fixya.
Good luck and have a nice day.

unfortunately it is impossible to either play, fast forward or rewind the tape. I have tried with other tapes and am experiencing the same problem. All was working perfectly yesterday, but I inadvertantly left the record button on all night and when I tried to use it this morning was met with this error code. Can you please suggest something else? thank you.
