This motherboard supports socket 478 cpu. This would mean it only supports Pentium 4. The Pentium 3 is compatible for a socket 370 motherboard.

So you won't have much luck.

You maybe have to upgrade the bios to support the new cpu.

Is there a cpu upgrade for an hp pavilion 6835 with a motherboard 115561 cognac 20000731

The fastest Pentium 3 that will work in your board is a Intel Pentium III 1GHz chip. Here is a link to the specs:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-III/Intel-Pentium%20III%201000%20-%20RB80526PY001256%20%28BX80526F1000256%29.html

You could also get a Intel Celeron 1.1 GHz but it only has half the level 2 cache size so it's actually a bit slower than the Pentium III 1GHz chip.
Here's a link to celeron specs:

UpGrade

you could only upgrade the processor and RAM in this condition i.e.

you can only change your an upgraded p-III processor like 1.0 GHz, 1.1 GHz or 1.3GHz and
upgrade the RAM by changing to 256 in each slot.

that is all what u can do with ur pc

if i understand correctly you swapped the cpu to another computer and it did not work... you need to purchase or find another cpu that is compatable with your motherboard.
