Error 79;04 comes up saying the power is off. We have tried turning the power off for several minutes but when we put it back on have the same problem.

Unplug any USB or network cables from the printer and try to power cycle. This error indicates a problem with the firmware on the printer and if it restarts without any cables attached there is a chance that you will be able to download the newest firmware to the printer. If it restarts, clear any print jobs from the queue and then reconnect the communication cable. Then down load the current firmware from HP and install it. This should solve the problem.

900 Firmware error on lexmark x544 what does this mean

Within your printer there is a micro-processor and a memory chip. The Firmware is a piece of software that is loaded to a memory chip.

Error of the software has occurred, you therefore may need to flash the firmware of the printer.
Find the Firmware on the Lexmark website, be sure to get the EXACT one for your printer.

Remember a failed attempt will render your printer useless, contact a professional to flash the fimware if you are unsure.

How do i download firmware for a 900 firmware error - lexmark 540n

Before you download firmware, the 900 error usually indicates a software or communications problem. Please try to do the following.

Disconnect every cable, except for the power cord and turn off the printer for 30 seconds or more to clear its memory

  • Clear all jobs in print queue then turn on the printer and see if the error returns
  • If the error does not return, try to print a test page from the Test Menu
  • If the test page prints correctly, the printer's hardware is most likely working correctly. The source of the problem is probably outside the base printer.

49.00F service error

From the service manual:

A critical firmware error has occurred that caused the processor on the formatter to abort the operation.
This type of error can be caused by invalid print commands, corrupt data, or invalid operations.
In some instances, electrical noise in the cable can corrupt data during transmission to the printer. Other causes include poor quality parallel cables, poor connections, or specific software programs.
Sometimes, the formatter itself is at fault, which is usually indicated by a 79 Service Error.

Recommended action:

1 Press CANCEL JOB to clear the print job from the printer memory.
2 Turn the printer off and then on.
3 Go to, Select Download Drivers and Software. Check for the latest firmware image version at the bottom of the page. If this firmware image is newer than the one installed on the printer and the printer can receive a firmware update, download the newer firmware
upgrade. Not all HP LaserJet 4200/4300 printers can receive firmware upgrades.
4 Try printing a job from a different software program. If the job prints, go back to the first program and try printing a different file. If the message appears only with a certain software program or print job, contact the software vendor for assistance.
5 If the message persists when using different software programs and attempting specific print jobs,
disconnect all cables that connect the printer to the network or a computer.
6 Turn the printer off.
7 Remove all memory DIMMs or thirdparty DIMMs from the printer. (Do not remove the firmware DIMM in slot J1.)
8 Remove all of the EIO devices from the printer.

After performing the actions above, procede with the following:
1 Turn the printer on.
2 If the error message disappears, reinstall each DIMM and EIO device individually, making sure to turn the printer power off and then on again as you install each device.
3 Replace the DIMM or EIO device that caused the error message.
4 Remember to reconnect all of the cables that connect the printer to the network or computer.
5 If this error message persists, replace the firmware DIMM.
6 Replace the formatter assembly.

Unable to communicate error

I have to make some assumptions here, let me know if I'm wrong. I assume you're using Windows Xp (Pro or Home). If so, disconnect the printer from the computer. Go to the Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Uninstall the Dell printer. Go to the Control Panel/Printers and Faxes On Menu bar, click on File come down to Server Properties. in box that pops up click on Drivers/ Click on the Dell printer, click on Remove. Go to: Download the latest driver for your Operating System to a location on your computer so that you know where to find it. Reboot your computer. Go to the downloaded driver. Double click on it. Follow the directions on the screen. It will let you know when you need to connect the printer to the computer again. That SHOULD do it. If it does not, please let me know before you rate this solution. I will try to provide additional information. Ed
