I realized my firmware was still 1.0. and tht it coudnt b upgraded to 2.x.xx till media player 10 was installed and media player 11 removed.before you do anything......back up all music on your zen touch because the upgrade to 2.0.xx deletes everything on your mp3 player and sometimes the player wont be readable after uninstalling .......then you can do an auto update: from the manual downloads page, I did.. and there was numerous updates tht popped up after removing windows 11 media player and the other item that was required in the instructions located here: .
Hope this clears the air about upgrading the firmware to 2.0 so tht windows 7 can read your zen touch, sleek or other non supported creative-Tm hardware. I havnt finished upgrading yet because I Had so much on it that its taking me over 8 hours now just to sync my music with my computer so tht I wont lose the data when upgrading to firmware 2.x.xx

Unfortunately not a solution. I've just had a similar problem - when updating the Creative software to the latest version, the update failed and left the device turned off. All attempts to turn it on have failed. There is very good support information on the Creative website. I've followed all the suggestions, and all require the device to be powered on to succeed - which is the one thing I can't do! After e-mails with Creative the conclusion is there's nothing I can do to solve this problem. If the MX is in warranty they'll probably fix it or replace it. If it's out of warranty you migt get a discount off a new one. Sorry can't help further.

I have the same problem, but I think that the installition CD is required for the computer to acknowledge the mp3 device.

White screens or blank screens could be easily resolved with a firmware reload. The following steps will take you through the troubleshooting steps.
  1. Reset your player and verify if the screen is able to display its contents
  2. Make sure that the player has fully charged battery
  3. Finally, perform the recovery tool if the screen still does not display any contents properly through the following site:

Im still having the same problem with my creative zen player

about this issue of creative zen wherein the device is not booting up to the normal os. and is not being detected by your computer, and giving you options to clean, reset, and format. my brother and i own creative zen, my brother own zen 4GB and i own 16gb. i don't have any problems at all. but my brother does. what i did is i just download the firmware version of my brother's zen that is missing which is version 1.03.04_0.6.1. unfortunately you will not find this firmware version at creative website.

just perform this steps and you're good to go.

1. download the firmware for your zen.
2. connect your zen to your pc.
3. run the executable file (firmware).
4. just follow the on-screen instructions on your computer and you're good to go.
