I just purchased this laptop last night, it has a wireless card built into the laptop and it also has the option for an ethernet port on the other side. i dont have wireless internet so i figured since it has the ethernet port i could just plug in my ethernet cable from my modem to my laptop and it would work..but it didnt i currently have armstrong zoom 500 and i use that for my desktop at home so i know it works. since i bought this laptop i took out the ethernet cable from my desktop and plugged it intomy laptop but the laptop doesnt recognize it. i called my internet service provider and he reset the modem for me and it still doesnt work..please help. thank you
Hi,
the switch has nothing to do with ethernet card...thats only a wireless switch.. do the following:
Click start >>> Type CMD in the search box (if Vista) or Run >>> then type CMD and hit enter
Then type IPCONFIG and hit enter.. look for IP address and default gateway.. it should be something like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. If you are getting any other IP address other than 169.xxx.xxx.xxx then the winsock is corrupt.. try this then
On the same CMD window type netsh winsock reset catalog hit enter. Then restart the computer. If you have some other IP apart from 169 then the computer is conencted to the router. DEFAULT GATEWAY will show some numbers (that means the computer and router are connected) You will ahve to call your ISP then.
Also, try re-installing the network card driver from support.dell.com and entering the service tag.

You look at whether the Wireless Switch is off / On . The switch must be in ON position while connecting Internet .

Check your lan card maybe it is disable, try to enable it

If the laptop says limited connectivity, usually it is not getting the right IP from the modem, or the modem is not connecting to the Internet
