When a camera initializes, it checks certain functions, and extends the lens. When a lens is stuck, the gears driving it are usually either stuck or stripped. Dust or sand in the lens assembly can jam the len's gears. There are some things you can do try to fix this, unless the gear(s) are actually stripped, and in that case repair is needed. Here is a web page that explains the things you can try to free the lens, and get it working again.

The blog is about lens errors and stuck lens, so try the suggestions. They say about half the cameras can be fixed, trying their steps. If nothing works, the camera will have to be repaired. Make sure you get an estimate first, since the cost of repair can be sometimes be more than a new camera. Good luck, and hope this helps.

Step # 7 worked. I really had to force the barresls to move though. I had to put on rubber gloves to get a good grip on them. The downside is my zoom does not work anymore. I guess you can't have it all. Thanks for you help!

My Olympus Tough turns on but immediately starts beeping for 10 seconds then shuts off. It does this over and over.

Your rechargeable battery is no longer serviceable. You need to replace it with a new battery. This camera uses one Olympus lithium ion battery*. No
other type of batteries can be used.

TG-610: LI-50B
Caution:
There is a risk of explosion if the battery is replaced with the incorrect battery type.
If you would like the manual, please send me an email to [email protected] and I will send it to you right away. Please put "Olymp TG-310" as the subject. Lawrence Brown

After i turn on my Optio E10, it shuts off right away even after i put in new batteries.

Sounds like a memory card problem. Try using A 512mb San Disk SD Card. Not a San Disk SDHC card. see if that doesn;t help you out. Good-Luck

Camera turns on and shuts off right away ? New batteries

Try cleaning the battery compartment contacts with a Q-Tip dampened not soaked in rubbing alcohol. Also clean the battery and the charger contacts also.

New batteries are not accepted

put batteries in very carefully - not bouncing them in. If you get the 'change the batteries message' then open the battery cover turn the camera a little gently to reposition the batteries and hopefully it should go away. Test your charger too ... is it charging? is it the same thing with non-rechargeable batteries?remember Batteries don't work well when cold this could cause the camera to shutdown. It might also be that the auto shut down setting is too short unless it is shutting down while you are actually shooting.make sure you are using the correct battery type and match.clean the contacts in the battery compactment.hope this helps

Vivicam 8400

I have a ViviCam 8400 and have the same problem UNLESS I buy Duracell Power Pix or Energizer Titanium batteries. These cost more than the regular grade AA batteries, but when I used brand new regular batteries, the camera would turn on for 2 seconds then turn right off. Titanium or Power Pix batteries make the camera work fine. And, because they are made for digital media, they do allow you to use the camera for longer periods of time.

Dimagez3 Battery Options

Hey bray598,
According to the manufacturer this camera comes with AA alkaline batteries so unless you bought defective batteries the ones you purchased should work fine. I would make sure the batteries are inserted properly, and make sure when you turn it on the battery cover and/or the memory card cover are closed. I hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Allan
