sounds like you are having problems with your control board, psu, or most likely the power inverter. shine a flashlight onto the screen and see if you can see a dark image.
I'm pretty sure the jammed CD might be directly attributed to the pennies and nickels. I would definitely be curious to know how those got in your system. As for the red light in the digital out, it could just be some internal LED that is shining a little bit of light out of the port. But yes...the change in the machine is likely causing your other problems. I would take it to a repair shop or send it in to Sony as soon as possible to avoid further or long-term damage.
If all lights in the ring are red, turn off the xbox and ensure all of the power and Audio/Video cables are fully inserted in both the xbox and your television.
You probably need to sync your Wii-mote to your Wii. Open the battery compartment on the remote and the SD card door on the front of your Wii. Press the red SYNC button on your Wii and then on the controller. You know it is synced when a solid LED light is shining at the bottom of the Wii-mote.

this is an other heating error. usually caused by one of the RAM chips.
you will need to reflow the ram chip to fix this error.
This guy here has a 6part video guide on reflowing the xbox360, during reflowing the complete motherboard he covers the ram chips: http://www.youtube.com/user/ohiocitysales#p/u
