Camer will not flash and take pictures every thing

Why do you need newer software? Updates don't come, beacuse a camera stops taking pictures or having problems. Most updates are little improvements for cameras that still work correct.
Try to discribe what is wrong with your camera. Perhaps you need something els to solve the problem.

Check to make sure battery compartment isn't damaged. If it isn't might be time for a new camera...sorry

HI, this will occur when there ia a lens mechanism failuer. Inside the cam housing , there is a mechanism that is powered by a small servo motor. this mech can become lose or unstable, in return, jamming itself open or closed. When this happens, you will need to send it to the manufacture for this repair. they will replace the motor and mechanism as well. Contact Pentex for a repair ticket. they will refer you to a nearby repair depot.

Bad batteries can cause that. The flash module needs alot of power to charge. Your camera will still work, but without enough power to charge the flash module, it may take along time. Again.
Try fresh batteries.

A fairly common problem with "underwater" cameras is that the sealing surfaces that are supposed to keep the water out fail to some degree due mostly to lack of cleanliness when the camera is closed up. It takes VERY LITTLE salt water inside a delicate electronic device to wreak all sorts of havoc.

Look carefully inside the camera for any sign of salt deposits or corrosion. If you see that, the camera is likely toast or at least in need of a repair job that likely will cost more than a newer camera.

Use a USB card reader for your type of memory card

Check the manual throughly- usually there is a more comprehensive manual on the CD- to ensure all the correct setting are made. Other wise this is a flash failure[lamp or capacitor] Take a look at the Pentex technical support site.

My optio t10 did basically the same thing...turned on, lens goes out, then automatically shut off. I took the advice of a solution listed here for another problem...hit the camera. For whatever reason it worked.
