Hi, welcome to fixya.

If it is the actual component which control's the defrost cycle ( what was once referred to as a "defrost timer" ) it is located in the fridge section up under the plastic light and control covers.

For many modern fridges including yours, It is known as an "adaptive defrost control" and looks like this...Where is the defrost module for a maytag - ad5c9b2.jpg
If you are referring to the actual defrost heater and bi-metal/DTS, they are located in the freezer section behind the evaporator cover.

Hope that answer's your question. Let me know either way.

Where is the defrost timer located on maytag refrigerator model # 12569VEB2

If you have an MFI2569VEB/2 refrigerator, there is no defrost timer. The defrost function is controlled by an electronic control board located in a compartment on the back of the refrigerator. The tech sheet will be in the top hinge cover for the right door, and will show how to troubleshoot. Be sure to unplug the refrigerator prior to making any checks from the board.

Where is the defrost timer on a maytag msd2556aew refridgerator?

HI. This unit is not equipped with a traditional timer. Your unit has, what is called an Adaptive defrost control board. This device is used to regulate the defrosting cycle, and heater assembly. The part number is 61005988, and it is located in the control housing section of the unit, just above the heat shield section.

F/up on Frig section not cooling and at time appears to...

If the defrost timer is malfunctioning, and I think that unit has a mechanical timer, causing the defrost to cycle slower than it should, then yes... the coil can freeze not allowing air to pass through until the next defrost. One of the first things a repairman should check is the defrost circuit if the coil is frozen. Many times you would not notice unless you open the door alot or your freezer is quite full.
