It means it is time to change the oil. It comes on based on how you drive, engine revolutions, and the conditions, and not on mileage. The mileage can vary depending on these factors. To reset the light after changing the oil turn the ignition on, press and release the stem until oil life message is displayed. Once the alternating oil life message and reset is displayed press and hold the stem until several beeps are heard. The light has been reset.

How often do you have to change oil in a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire? Consumer Reports is suggesting that newer cars (and I don't know if this means anything after the year 2000) probably can last longer than the...

Hello: At the time your owners manual was printed the oil change recommendation was 7500 miles, BUT that was under ideal driving conditions. (NOBODY drives a car under those conditions) If tour car has a four cylinder engine I would recommend between 3,000 to 4,000 miles. I have a 2001 Saturn with 202000 miles, bought new, use Castrol 10W30 Castrol oil have changed it every 3000 miles my self and have records to prove it. The engine still does not use or leak any oil.

I recently changed the oil in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cheroke. I want to re-set the computer to remind me of the next oil change in 3000 miles. How do I do that?

Depending on your model your owners manual should have instructions that guide you through the process. To reset the oil monitor in my jeep the dash has a menu button you scroll through until you get to the oil life then you press step until you scroll through the options you need like 3000, 4000, 5000 miles. it will ask if you want it reset and you press yes. Its very simple.

Maintence required on red

Maintenance Required is a light that comes on after a predetermined number of miles. For example, if the maintenance schedule Honda set for the car calls for an oil change at 3000 miles, a new fan belt at 6000 miles, and another oil change at 9000 miles, then the maintenance required light will come on every 3000 miles and stay on until it is reset by the dealer. Some people, especially those that do their own regular maintenance but don't have a way to reset the light themselves, find this an annoyance. But others find it useful and take their cars in to the dealer every time the light comes on, and they rest assured that all of the regular maintenance is always done on time.

What this light does NOT do however is signal that there is anything immanently wrong with your car. It is not a "Check Engine" light (that's the one you should worry about if it ever comes on), but merely a reminder for you to do preventative maintenance. That doesn't mean you should *ignore* it, per se, as you want to make sure you have your car on some kind of maintenance schedule, even if yours is not as strict as Honda's. But there is no need to panic.

After starting and engaging the first gear the car cannot move, the engine seems to be lacking power, i drive a 1994 corolla 16v fuel injection.

Do you mean lacking power only in low gear? or all across the board?
I would suggest you use good quality fuel(tier one, not the cheapo bottom barrel stuff); also use a fuel injector cleaner every other tank. Did you remember to change the oil at 3000-5000 miles? i would reccomend synthetic oil, and a good premium oil filter.
If that does not work you need a tuneup; did you do one recently?
Change air filter, spark plugs etc.
hasthe car been gradually going downhill in performance? or was it sudden.
if ti was sudden i would still do all or some of the above, plus check if something is wrong in the engine.
hope this works; otherwise explain some more how the problem started.

Low to no oil in 2002 Impala. No even 3000 miles.

If you are close to 3000 miles, change oil. Low oil will overheat and change chemically. While under there, take a look around and see where or if oil is leaking anywhere (should not be hard to find) After changing, run and check again while running. Providing you aren't getting a lot of smoke out the back, (burning it) likely you will find a leak, then fix it!
good luck

How often do I change the oil in my new Lincoln MKX ...every 2000 km or every 5000 km?

The owner's manual calls for changing oil and filter every 7500 miles in normal service, or if driving in dusty conditions, offroad, or lots of low speed and idling (a taxi or maybe an unlucky commuter), go to the extreme service intervals of 5000 miles. Changing oil every 3000 miles is definitely NOT required.
