You must check the settings of both the TV and soundbar to make certain that the right sound type is selected and also that the optical output is switched on and being received.

Check your audio setup menu on the TV. Many only output sound to the external connections when in 'line' or fixed output mode. Also most TVs will not drive a passive sound bar, so you may want to verify that your soundbar is powered and works with like an ipod or CD player for input.

Go to a retail store and ask general questions.

I don't see any audio outputs on this television. Without them it is not possible to connect a sound bar. However I am currently using a sound bar with a television with no audio outputs. I am connecting my devices to the television with the video cables only and connecting the audio cables directly from them to the sound bar. I am pleased with how doing this turned out.

You could have a drain on your AC (120) causing the hum bars in your set . Best thing to try is to reduce what you have plugged into your 120v outlet . One of your unit could have a capacitor going bad in its power supply causing the hum bars . Even if it is not turned on. Try one unit at a time . if you find out it one of your units they make what is called a line conditioner which filters out these hum bars . Good luck
