I own 2 of the vs220 seal-a-meal units one of which worked ok with the bags that came in it and the second is a hit and miss unit. Both were purchased at walmart. I have tried to use the last one that i purchased one time to seal fish. That unit just won't vaccume the the bags down to well and I had someone try there hand at it who owns a really good one. My other unit is used to seal on sale meats but the bags that walmart sold me don't vaccume down very well before the unit goes into the sealing mode, it seals fine but is not vaccume packed. I know that things can happen but not two in a row. Thanks Bob Futch

I too bought my seal a meal at Walmart. I have gotten it to work twice. The main problem is it won't seal. I really think it has to do with the black seals....If I pull them up it sometimes will work. It is really frustrating. I would take it back but have mislaid my recept:(

Do they make special bags for this unit

They do! You can get them on the Seal-A-Meal website or even on Amazon. Here's a link.

Why does my rival seal a meal not seal?

The sealing mechanism is not working properly. Make sure there is no debris in the path of the seal wire - if so the area under that material will not be sealed and there will be leaks.

When I go to SEAL, it burns a small hole clear thru the bag. One little metal peice on the sealing strip has burned right thru the white heating strip, therefore, it isn't sealing completely.

You need new tape to replace the one presently covering the heat element. You can get a roll of it for just US$7.99. Look at the FixYa question "where [or how maybe] can I get a new tape." I think that you have to be sure that the heat element is flat. I bought a used unit with that problem and the element had somehow gotten bent. Ordered the tape this morning and the cost is worth the hopeful fix.

Stopped sealing the bags, does not vacuum 3 week old machine

Did the clip break that holds the sealing nozzle in place? If so, use a chopstick to hold the lock and seal unit in place. I place a little scotch tape on the chopstick, place it all the way across the sealing nozzle. You may have to really press on the lid to shut it, but it works. If it's not the clip, maybe you have a blocked hole or the sealing unit needs cleaned out really well. Good luck!

The small white clip that keeps the nozzle cage dowmn is broken. Can i get it replaced?

Mine broke too.. I contacted Seal-a-meal, and for my machine, they don't make replacement parts anymore. BUT, here's what I did and it works great. I place a chopstick across the length of the lock and seal nozzle...I use a little scotch-tape to hold it in place.. When you shut the lid, it applies enough pressure to the nozzle, to start pulling air out of the bags. I do have to lean or push down hard on the lid, to get it to lock into place, before sealing, but the chopstick works wonderful...I am not going to buy a whole new seal-a-meal when this works so terrific. In fact, I just seal-a-mealed 8 bags of beans this afternoon. Try it before you go out and buy another machine.
