Rangemaster 110 LPG Range (5364) right hand oven lights but flame only stays low? What is the likely problem please

  • Anonymous Jun 12, 2010

Oven is original and LPG direct from manufacturer. All other parts of the range work OK and as per original spec,

I suspected the FSD Valve which is on the back of the unit. However I can't find a replacement as they seem to be obscelescent. Will try your suggestion and post back to you on results.

Is this new and recently converted to LP-Gas? Did you install it and convert it or did you have a professional do it? It sounds to me like the wrong size orifice for the oven may have been put in. Was the appliance regulator converted? When you flip the cap, it allows more pressure to the burners, but this affects all stovetop & oven burners, not just one burner. Some ovens require converting the oven thermostat too, but not sure if it applies to this brand. Check your owner's manual and make sure all the steps in the conversion were done. If you had a pro install and convert it, call them back to fix it. Douglas

    Hello again,

Now that I know it is not new and was not field converted to LP, the
most likely culprit is a faulty oven safety valve. Each oven will have
it's own valve. It's what the burner orifice is screwed into, at the
mouth of the burner. One thing you can try is tapping the oven valve
with the handle portion of a screwdriver. Sometimes they stick
internally and it may not opening up all the way. Other than that, you
may have to replace the oven valve. Hope this helps. Douglas

Flame on main hob of range master 110 is yellow and smelly also black sooty deposit left on jets

Ream out all the orifices and air venturi holes on the burner, adjust the air-ahutter, the air-shutter is usually nearer the valve/knob than to the burner. Yellow flame is an imbalance of fuel to oxygen and is creating Carbon Monoxide and not burning cleanly... this is the same problem that can make a furnace deadly. Blue flame=neutral flame.

I have a Rangemaster Leisure 110 the left hand oven lights up, but the flame is very low and will not go to maximum.

common problem, there is a device in the oven called a solenoid/ff device these are safety devices and fail after a few years. replacements can be obtained from main stockist Gas On spares on 0121-585-7799

The right hand oven lights, but no matter which gas mark setting you select, the flame does not rise to increase oven temperature, but stays on pilot settings

the flame needs to be adjusted there's a small screw right inside of the shaft where the knob goes. Pull knob off and there should be a screw inside that u shaped shaft. Turn the burners on and set the flame accordingly.

Oven flame on right hand oven doesent increase when dials turned up

The OVEN flame size is consistently one size.
The thermostat simply stays closed longer when asking for higher temperature in the oven.

Rangemaster 110 main oven will only stay on low flame i am a gas safe engineer 227692 thanks

Hi,

The fault you have there my fellow gasman is that the FSD (flame safeguard device) is faulty.

I take it you have tested to make sure the customer has 20mb incoming working pressure (NG)? or if it's LPG 35 - 39mb?

I hope this helps :)

Oven will not respond

The knob won't have any effect on the flame size.  The knob controls temperature.  If you're referring to the pilot light staying on and then the main flame not going on...that's another problem.  If the main flame will not go on, the assembly that controls the main flame is likely defective.  If the unit has a thermocouple, you might change it out first.  Sometimes, that's all that is needed and they're cheap.

Rangemaster 110

Reading the user manual, it states that the flame initially comes on low, until it is "sensed" by the flame sensing device. This to me sounds suspiciously like the flame isn't being sensed and so never gets increased to the normal level.
I've not had time for a proper look at it.... but from a quick glance this morning this looked like a "flame rectifier" probe next to my burner (as we commonly use in boilers to sense if the gas burner is lit). This is just a metal probe. They send a high-ish AC voltage signal (Sine wave) from it, through the flame, to the earthed metal case. The flame acts like a diode (yes it really does work !) and simple electronics detects the change in the applied signal (rectified) due to the flame. I know from personal experience they (the probes) get coated with crud (carbon, etc) and need a good clean. I suggest you try cleaning both it and the metal area opposite it. If necessary the probes metal tip could be GENTLY rubbed with very fine Emmery cloth, etc, if badly coated.
Other than that, if it is sensing the flame, then it must be the gas control device (solenoid valve ?) that is jammed, blocked or just defective.
Simples......
