The issue could be a low power in the Tomtom and that is the reason it is not switching on. Now here the problem could be with the charging cable/wire from the car charger which might not be giving power to the GPS. Check for the fuse at the connector. If the fuse is blown off the power wont goes into the GPS and it wont get charged and wont swich on. Look at the tip of the connector which has that spring like contact. You will be able to turn that to open it and find a fuse. Replace it with the right "amp" as the existing one. You will get one from Radioshack. If you have already checked it and sure it is charging could be issue with Tomtom itself..Good luckKris..
Try recharging the battery in the car, and also at home with the USB cable. If you see that it does not hold charge in both case, then you may conclude that the battery is defective. You should compare the TomTom claims with the actual result.
If battery is defective, you should be able tp replace it. Go to the TomTom onlibe store.
try the usb cable to your. this is the recommended method to charge a tomtom when it wont power on. for reasons unexplained by tomtom they do not recommend the car or house charges.
plug it in via the usb cable to your computer for a few hours(make sure the green light is on and nice and bright) then press and hold the power button(this could take up to 20 seconds)

Check your battery symbol.
On mine, the battery is dead (or mechanically disconneced inside).
You need to reset the unit by pressing the tiny button on the back.
Problem is that when you remove the unit from the charging stand, the dead battery does not allow you to press the reset button. (Pressing the reset button with no battery cannot reset the unit)
IF you could press the reset button while plugged into the charger, you could get you unit working again. But..alas, the design of the unit prohibits you from doing so.
Chances are if you fix the battery problem, you will have a usable unit again.
