Double check the connector inside the PC. There should be 3 wires connected to the CD rom drive.

My cd drive does not recognise cds

Okay. First of all is it a cd drive in your computer as opposed to a DVD drive? If you put a dvd into a cd drive it cannot recognize the dvd. A dvd drive can recognize a cd, but a cd drive cannot recognise a dvd.

Does your computer actually recognize the drive as being present?
If the drive isn't recognized by the computer try:

power off the laptop
Physically remove the cd or dvd drive
power -up the laptop without the cd/dvd drive
power off the latop and refit the dvd/cd drive
power it up again and see if the drive is
recognized

If the drive IS recognized by the laptop but won't play any disk it's probably the drive itself at fault. You can try gently cleaning the inside of the drive - the optic that reads the disk. However, the usual cause is failure of that optic which read the disk information. It cannot be repaired.

The alternative to fitting a new drive is to buy a portable dvd drive. They connect via a usb cable. Have a look on Ebay

Trying to install printer to my acer laptop when put in disc nothing happens

when you click on MY COMPUTER you should see if cd drive is listed, if it is then try a different cd or dvd to see if that works. If that still does not work then check BIOS settings to make sure cd drive is present.

If drive appears ok and printer cd still not working the quick solution would be to go to print manufactures site and download drivers for your printer.

ASUS X44H won't recognize DVDs in the optical drive.

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

hope this helps

if this fails to fix the problem

It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it

Error code 00F0:136C IDE FAILED BLANK MEDIA OR NO MEDIA IS PRESENT IN OPTICAL DRIVE. IS THE HDD FRIED OR WHAT?

Hi,

You probably ran the 32-bit diagnostics in this Dell computer.

The error code 00F0:136C, actually is talking about the "OPTICAL DRIVE,"which is your CD/DVD ROM; not the hard drive.

That will fail since, I am assuming you didn't put anything inside the CD-ROM.

The diagnostics tests everything and in this case, it tested the CD-ROM and failed since there is no CD inside the CD/DVD-ROM.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Oliver

My drive doen't load my cd onto my computer. I hear it humming but nothing happens. it is a dvd optiarc re ad 7203a ata deviced

When you put a disc in, if nothing pops up, do the following:
  1. Click on the Start Menu
  2. Click on "My Computer"
  3. Locate the DVD drive in the window that pops up
  4. Double Click on it to see if you can access the disc
If that does not work, I would suggest that you clean the disc as best you can, make sure there are no major scratches, fingerprints, or dust.
If that still does not work, you can take a known good disc like a DVD movie that you know will play, put that in the drive and if that does not work, it may be safe to say that the drive is no longer working and must be replaced. But if you really want to make sure that it is not dead, you can buy a special disc that will clean the lasers lens inside the drive, I have linked to an example of one that will achieve that task.
http://www.amazon.com/Maxell-DVD-LC-Lens-Cleaner-Blue/dp/B00000JPPI
Now if you have tried all of these options, and still cannot get the drive to read a CD or DVD, you can safely assume that it must be replaced.

Dvd doesn't work in PC

Check if autorun is active. In Windows 7, this is found by Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > AutoPlay. (In previous versions, it is in a similar location under the Control Panel.) The next thing to try is cleaning the lens if you can. Open up the computer and check if the data cable is loose (either from the optical drive or the motherboard). If these don't work, replace the optical drive. (Internal optical drives are about ~$20-30 for DVD R/W.)

I hope this helps.

Need help instaling photo exploision deluxe 4.0 when i put the dvd in my driver.. it just says .. no **** in driver.. nothing happens!!! help !!

Do other CD work? If yes, you have a bad Photo Explosion CD.
If no, then you have a bad CD/DVD drive. You can get a new one for $30 if this is a desktop pc. If you have a laptop an external dvd drive would be the best option if you don't use the DVD drive very often.

CdRom/DVD not working at all

Right click on my computer and then select properties. Then select Device Manager. Locate the Optical Drive and then right click it and delete it. Reboot the computer and then it will reinstall the driver when the computer boots. Should take care of it.
