Go to hp customer care and follow instructions to fix the problem. Other models are listed vs d4160 but instructions work just fine. Following the unplug usb cable and power cord and test door sensor/activator with cotton swab plus unplugging over night cleared the problem. The next day my saved documents printed and the printer is functional again.

SOURCE: Paper Jam

I have exactly the same printer, here's how to remove jammed paper.
1. Unplug printer from mains and your computer. 2. Turn Printer around 3. There is a darker-grey panel with a knob in the middle of it. Turn the knob anti-clockwise to release the panel 4. The jammed paper should loop around the roller. Gently pull on the loop slowly until it has released fully. 5. Put the panel back on the printer and turn knob anti-clockwise to lock it into place.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Carriage Paper Jam in Photosmart hp c6180 all-in-one-printer

Here's what you do. Take a look at the photo below.
Open the cover of the printer, where the ink cartridges are located. Behind the ink cartridges is the carriage, which is a box that moves side-to-side on a pair of rails. It's the thing that sprays the ink onto the paper.

You have to reach in with your hand and slide this thing to the center. Then, look to the very sides, left and right, for any bits of paper. If you look at the second picture, you can see my finger pointing to a small bit of paper that tore of and got jammed into the side. See the little crumpled bit of paper? It's preventing the carriage from sliding all the way to the right. You could have little bits on the right or left side. I had to reach in with needle-nose pliers to grab the paper bits out, but maybe your fingers are small enough.

Once the little bits of paper were out, I was back in business. Good luck!

SOURCE: MY PAPER IS JAM IN MY HP DESKJET D4160 PRINTER

Hi there,

Paper can jam inside the printer for a number of reasons.

  • Open the cover to the printer and look inside to see if there are any pieces of paper or debris that may be blocking the print path.
  • Be sure to unplug the printer before touching anything internal to avoid electric shock. If there is something blocking the print path, remove it, close the printer, and try printing again.
  • You can also check inside the printer to see if any components have come loose.

How do I check ink levels on my HP deskjet D4160 Printer

When your printer was installed, it came with a CD with a complete software package for your printer to report (ink levels/diagnostics/etc) to the computer. If it was installed in Windows 7 (and below) it would be found at "Start" (button) > "HP" > Deskjet D4160 > Deskjet D4160. In Windows 8 look for HP. Once you've opened the application it will query the printer for its status. One of the icons will show the "Estimated Ink Levels".

If you can't find the software installed or the CD you can find it at HP's (US-English) support page for your D4160 is at the link below. Persons from other countries you can find their language at HP.com/support. There you can find everything you need.

Ink Jet Notes:
·Printers can be set to "economy" (default or individual job) to save ink if high quality is not an issue.
·Follow the user's manual or print using all cartridges at least monthly to insure the cartridge jets do not get fouled with dried up ink. Once fouled its toast. I've never been able to clean one.
·New printers come with minimal ink in the cartridges.
·"XL" (high volume) versions of your printers ink cartridge is cost effective if you print frequently.

HP Deskjet D4100 1) The arrow pointing down near the power switch is flashing. Printer will not print. 2) The printer goes "offline" Paper is not jammed, have unplugged/plugged. rebooted numerous...

First, here is a link for the troubleshooting your printer: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-deskjet-d4100-printer-series/501868

I always go the the manufacturer website to download drivers. I also just had a similar problem on our printer at church. Two people looked and looked after pulling a jammed paper out of the printer. I looked a few times, opened the 2 back doors, the front door, removed the paper trays and looked, opened the side door, and looked again. Each time the printer said jam. I got a flashlight and looked everywhere again, nothing. Still said jam. I looked one more time in above where the paper trays go, and under a piece of plastic just barely visible at just the right angle was a tiny scrap of paper, not much bigger than a quarter. I managed to get it out and all works fine. Possibly you may have something like this going on?

Our Deskjet D4160 had a jam and the paper was pulled out. the paper feed button is blinking and does nothing when we push it. We have restarted the computer, unplugged the printer. What can we do to get it...

hi

1. 1
Switch off the printer and disconnect the power supply. Allow any residual charge to fade away before putting your hands or metal tools inside the chassis.
2. Step 2
Pin down the exact location of the jam. The three hot spots for a jam are the paper tray, anywhere between the feed tray and the print carriage, or between the print carriage and the output tray.
3. Step 3
Take off the front paper tray if the sheet got stuck while it was still in the front area of the printer. If the sheet jammed here, you should be able to see most of the paper.
4. Step 4
Pull on the sheet with both hands and steady pressure. Do not tug as you might rip the paper, leaving a chunk of it deeper in the machine.
5. Step 5
Open the back panel to reach paper jammed between the feed tray area and the print carriage of the all-in-one printer. Carefully remove the jammed paper from the machine.
6. Step 6
Use the carriage access door to reach a jam further inside the all-in-one printer. You may need to move the print carriage out of your way to clear the jam.
7. Step 7
Return any access panels to their closed and locked positions. Plug your printer back in and flip the power switch.

HP 3915 paper jam error

I had the same problem and just talked with HP technician Neeta and she showed me how to fix it. It's a bit convoluted. In essence you have to clear the print spooler. Here is what she told me.

First you have to be clear that there really ISN'T a paper jam by printing a test message this back door way.

Neeta : The USB cable should be disconnected. Neeta: To print a self-test page, press and hold the Power button. Raise and lower the printer cover four times. Release the Power button, and the self-test page prints

If the sel-test page prints, this means you truly do not have a paper jam. Next, clear the print spooler

Neeta : The USB cable should be disconnected.Neeta : Now click on start->RUN.Neeta : Then type "services.msc".Neeta : Then it will open the services window.Neeta : Now please look for the option "print spooler. Neeta : Okay, now , please right click on the option "print spooler" and click on stop then click on start, 3 times.
