If the default ip address has been changed, reset the unit. Reset is on the back small button or pin hole. Plug the cat5 cable into the router and your network card on your pc, then log back in using default 192.168.1.1 no user name, password is admin.

How can I get the router IP of my Linksys 2.4GHz broadband router?

The Linksys G router gives you both wired and wireless connections over a broadband Internet connect to create a local area network. The Linksys router is compatible with wireless G and B devices, through the 2.4-GHz wireless band. The wireless speed is at 54 megabytes per second and you can get 100 megabytes per second with a wired connection. You have to set up the wireless configuration on the Linksys before using it on your network.

Plug the router's power cable into an electrical outlet. Attach an Ethernet cable into the Internet port on the back of the router. Connect the other end into your broadband modem. Connect your computer to the Linksys G using another Ethernet cable. This Ethernet cable can go into any of the wired router ports. Open your Internet browser. Type "192.168.1.1" in the address bar and hit "Enter." This is your router's IP address and the home of its Web configuration page. Click "Wireless." Click "Manual." Alter your SSID, also known as your network name. You can change this name to any value that you want. You can also change the wireless channel if you are in an area with many wireless connections that may interfere. Click "Save Changes." Click "Wireless Security." Choose an encryption method to encrypt your wireless transmissions. WPA or WPA2 are common security protocols you can use in wireless networks. Input a network key, also known as the network password. Click "Save Changes."

I have an unsecured router ,linksys wireless-g 2.4 ghz broadband router, need password and username to secure it.

There is no need to ask for a username or password. Just log in the settings' page for your Linksys with your browser (typically it's http://192.168.1.1), provide the username and password to connect with the router and make the settings you like for the Wi-Fi name at WLAN SSID section and the password you like at the security section. At the end hit apply (or save). I advice you to make all these settings while you are connected with an ethernet cable at your Linksys, to avoid being locked out in case of a problem.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

Linksys Wireless-G2.4 GHz Broadband that my laptop doesnn't recog

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router
is there any computer connected to the router ?
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
Router set up page is the page where you can check all the wireless settings of the router.

If that doesn't work then upgrade the firmware of the router.
Firmware is the software of the router. After upgrading the firmware, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure the router.

Linksys wireless-G 2.4 GHz broadband Router

Yes. Your router ip is likely 192.168.1.1 put that into your web browser. You'll get a login screen. type admin then password in the two boxes. That should get you into the router unless the user id and password have been changed. If you goto the linksys site and goto downloads you can enter your model and version number and download the manual.
