If it is a reletivly new machine then yu need to remove the frount panel to get in to the machaine for repairs.

take a putty knife and between the frount panel and the top panel and insert the putty knife into the holding clip 4 inches in on each side as you feel the spring action of these clips pull forward on the froun panel, repeat for the other side the same way and the frount will be off

Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

If the motor isn't running, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machine can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

if washer is newer version remove front panel and ck if has a gearcase it's probably bad if it has what ge calls a mode shifter it's probably bad it has a coil with connection to motor bd..look on bd for flashing green 4 flashes means open mode shifter coil

GE topload washing maching won't spin or agitate. Where is the reset button

Here's what the GE technician just did at our house to reset the electronics:

Unplug the machine for at least 30 seconds.

Plug it back in, then open and close the lid six times.

That fixed my problem. Good luck with yours.

GE washing machine, wont spin

Same problem (but without any smell). You should try to reset the two computer boards in the washer. You do this by 1) unplugging machine and wait for 30 secs; 2) plug in machine; and 3) open and fully close the lid at least 5 times. This resets computer boards, which can get messed up by power surges, etc.
