IBM T30 RAM memory module only 1/2 working?

We went to upgrade our memory from what we thought was only 256 to 1G...what we realized is that we had two 256 memory sticks inside the machine but it is only recognizing 1/2. We upgraded the RAM memory sticks so now we have 512 but does anyone know what the problem could be or has anyone experienced this? My PC specialist friend that replaced the RAM memory sticks is recommending further help from someone more experienced in repairing such issues. Just looking for ideas.

The problem is the mother board. One of the memory slots has gone bad. This is common with T30s.

Try resetting the RAM module, it may not be making proper connection.
Remove the RAM module and connect it again.
If the laptop still does not boot up, the RAM module may be faulty, remove the RAM module and take it to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM module for you.

It looks like common problem: my OLD T30 can see only one 256mB memory slot. Does it make sense to install one 512 mB unit? Can T30 recognize 1gB memory? Thank you in advance

Yes, you system will support up to 1GB of ram, so, if i were you i would suggest that you buy a 1GB chip, this will give you the best performance upgrade. And, ram is so cheap at the moment, so, i think it will be the best option.

you are using Thinkpad T30 2366 and if it has a low RAM (memory) you can upgrade that. I check your computer specs online and what I saw is this P4-M 1.8 GHz but unable to verify if it has 256mb RAM. If it does you can upgrade that to 512mb.

you can look on this website { http://www.edgetechcorp.com/memory/upgrade.asp?cid=27556 } just to check the compatible RAM for your computer.

Hi there. I have a problem with my Thinkpad T30 type 2366, for which I would appreciate any suggestions to rectify. A few days ago, I booted it up but, instead of it doing so, it emitted a series of beeps...

Cheack for the RAM. remove it and place it back again.
if not this refer to procesor over heating.

Put the original memory back in and see if the laptop starts up. If it does, you may have chosen modules that were not designed for the laptop.

T 30 IBM MEMORY PROBLEM

Hi!

Call 800-IBM-SERV and describe the problem. Say that you heard that there's an "engineering change" available to correct it, described in document MIGR-44772.

Repair should be free within the warranty period, and probably free even outside the warranty.
