Whirlpool (model # LXR6232EQO)
when the machine fills up to begin washing and when it fills up to rinse....the water fails to shut off and thus floods over the tub and onto the floor. YIKES! sounds like some kind of relay /switch is not telling the the thing "enough already" can you help steer me in the right direction?
thanks
Karen Blake
This is usually a symptom of a pressure switch malfunction. The pressure switch is located in the operator console behind the load (or water) level knob. It is cylindrical in shape and
has an electrical connection and an air hose attached to it. In many
cases, the only problem is that the air hose has come loose and fallen
off the fitting on the pressure switch. All you have to do is reattach it. HINT: placing a small zip tie around the air hose where it connects onto the pressure switch will create enough resistance to keep the hose from vibrating loose again. Just a snug fit will do. Over tightening can break the fitting on the pressure switch. You will need to open the
console and inspect it. To open the console, it comes off in a few
different ways depending on the year and model of the washer:
1.
If you have removable end caps on the console, they simply pry off by
lifting from the the back exposing a screw under either end. Remove the
screws and the console lifts up.
2. If the end caps do not come
off, place a putty knife in the front corner of either end of the
console where it meets the washer top and push in while lifting up.
This depresses a retaining clip and the console will lift up.
3. Some consoles have a screw located on either side in the back that you need to remove and it will then lift up.
Be
careful when you lift the console. There are small plastic hinges
holding it in place and they can break if you aren't careful. Place the
console in its resting position by laying it over the back of the
washer. The pressure switch will be easily accessible. Double check the
hose like I previously stated and double check to make sure all the
electrical connections are in place.
If you check the switch and
find that everything is in place as it should be, you may have to
replace the switch. Post back with your COMPLETE model number (located
around the rim of the washer tub opening) and I can track down a part
number for you.

The water valve has a 'Hot' and 'Cold' side, make sure to test if the unit will fill at a different water temp. setting, as a Cold/Cold setting will paralyze the machine if the Cold side of the water valve has failed... Some newer machines have temperature sensors attached to the valve and will not fill if the sensor fails... Washing Machine Water Inlet Valve 285805
AS YOU SHOULD KNOW KENMORE APPLIANCES MADE BY MANY DIFFERNT COMPANIES AND WITHOUT FULL MODELL NUMBER IT IS HARD TO SAY WHAT IS PROBLEM BUT COULD BE DOOR LOCK OR MAIN CONTROLL BOARD PROBLEM
if you have to shut off the water supply valve of the residence (water keeps flowing after turning off the washing machine or unplugging the washer), the failed component is definitely a stuck open water inlet valve (fill valve) of the appliance. If the water stopped by pushing the timer or unplugging the machine, another internal electrical control related problem exists, such as a faulty timer assembly or controller board, or a pressure system failure (water level detection/monitoring system) - failed pressure switch (rare), clogged air hose or tub air dome (common in GE top-load washers), disconnected air hose (common in frigidaire top load washers & GE/Frigidaire/Kenmore stacked washer/dryer combo units).
While a simple repair can be done by yourself for a failed inlet valve, usually for $25-$50 in parts/shipping (go to searspartsdirect.com or appliancepartspros.com to look up a replacement fill-valve using your washing machine model number), the water damage potentially caused by the flooding is more important to address.
I recommend contacting your insurance company if there's a bunch of water that flooded your home - the water can cause delayed warping of flooring or cause mold to grow in/beneath your carpets and walls if the water was not immediately noticed and cleaned up (within first few minutes of flooding) - they send out water remediation specialists to dry (if possible), or to repair the damage to your home.
You probably have a cold inlet valve with restricted flow, either because the filter on the inlet valve is clogged or because the cold valve is failing......If you wash on "warm" you have both hot and cold water mixed. On rinse there is probably only cold water used....Check water flow for HOT and COLD settings and you'll probably see the difference...Good luck...Nomess

Washing machine sticks or stops mid-cycle
A very common fault on washing machines is when the program timer fails to complete the cycle and stops part way through. Many people blame the program timer for this but although it is a possible cause, there are many more likely causes for this fault. The program will stick if the heater isn't working, if the thermostat fails, if it can't fill up with cold water for the rinses, if it can't empty the water etc. There are too many possible causes of this fault to be able to give anything other than rudimentary advice. However, the common causes of a washing machine sticking that can easily be fixed are filling and emptying problems.
Check that the cold water supply is available to the washing machine, which is a common cause for sticking on rinses. If the washing machine appears to stop mid-cycle and isn't filling with water on rinses then see Washing machine won't fill with water (or no water goes into washing machine) before calling an engineer. If the washing machine can't drain the water out then it will stick on the rinses, or it will abort with an error code. If you can see water still inside the washing machine then check the following advice Washing machine won't empty water
most new washers have cold water only rinse and spray rinse ck cold water coming into machine during wash if no cold comes in suspect cold side of fill vale not opening ..could be wiring issue or a bad valve
Hi this could means that you may need to replace the washing machine bearings. Once the bearings are bad, the motor overheats and it will automatically shut down after the first rinse.
