Many times a complaint of noises ( grinding or scraping ) can be traced to a cracked impeller in many of the common motor and pump assemblies used today. Sometimes a poor washing complaint is common after this wash impeller has cracked. Remove power first before investigating.


The motor shaft has started to rust and swells out and this swelling cracks the upper impeller. Most times a new seal and impeller kit can cure this complaint but sanding and cleaning of motor shaft is required before replacing the new seals and impellers.

Hi I am Vortash by the sound of what you are descibing your pump bearings seem to be shot , although it is making this sound is it still washing properly if so it confirms it is the bearing and not the impeller catching and making the noise the pump gets to quite a high pressure to wash the dishes .. sort of an enclosed hot jet wash the force of which drives the spray arms .. so I am afraid it looks like you will soon need a replacement pump.. sorry to bare bad news .. It could be the impeller on the motor. The impeller fits over the shaft of the motor and might have split/broken up. That funny noise is probably the shaft spinning inside the damage impeller. Fortunately the impeler is fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. I believe there are one or two parts/covers to remove that are held in by a roughly half dozen torx screws.
