I just bought a home with a Tappan double oven Model #12-3699-10/01 and Serial # DF92200168 built in June of 1989. The previous owner did not have a manual and I can't seem to get the oven to turn on. The lights come on, but no heat. They swear the oven works, but it doesn't for me. How can I get a manual - or could it be this oven has cooked for the last time?

Nothing exists online for that. You remove it from the cabinet and measure the gap width and height. Then put the rule in to the back and measure to the edge lip. Take 6" off that measurement for an air gap.

I understand that you need the use and care manual for your Tappan wall oven, 12-4990-00-04. If the model is older than ten years old manufacturers will not keep that information available. You might be able to perform a search for antique models online for any additional information. -Matt

Name of Product: Thermador� Built-In Ovens

Units: About 37,000 (42,000 built-in ovens were previously recalled in June 2007)

Manufacturer: BSH Home Appliances Corp., of Huntington Beach, Calif.

Hazard: The ovens can have gaps in the insulation where overheating can occur and when used in the self-cleaning mode it can cause nearby cabinets to catch fire. This poses a fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: BSH Home Appliances has received three additional reports of incidents, including two that resulted in fires that damaged surrounding cabinets. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall involves Thermador Brand built-in double ovens with model numbers C272B, C302B, SEC272,C301U, SEC302, SECD272 and SECD302 and serial numbers between FD8403 through FD8701. Model and serial numbers are located on the underside of the control panel.

Sold at: Appliance and specialty stores nationwide from June 2004 through July 2007 for between $3,000 and $4,400.

throw the piece of **** out! nobody seems to know how to do this, and there is zero customer service or help available. there are problems like this all over the net with no answers.

I have an O'Keefe & Merritt double oven gas stove. The model number is 72 7242 23. The upper oven is about the size of a large microwave and sits above the range burners. The lower (full-size) oven is below the burner unit and includes a broiler draw below it.
So, when you say, double oven, I wonder if you are just talking about the main oven with broiler drawer (both of which are below the burner unit.)

Mine was a builder-supplied appliance in the new house we purchased in 1986. The upper oven has never performed very well. And, yes the upper oven can only be used for baking.

I have an instruction manual for it, but it doesn't provide that much information. Getting parts for it is extremely difficult, since Tappan is no longer manufacturing this brand. (I've been trying to locate a flat oven ignitor for the upper oven and can't seem to find a replacement that's the same 6-1/3" length.) In the 1980s Tappan apparently purchased O'Keefe & Merritt and marketed this brand for several years. Models originally manufactured by O'Keefe & Merritt in the 1930s-1950s are considered collectible antique stoves!

I tried randomly pushing 2 buttons at a time, and when I pushed "Timer Off/On" and "Cancel" together it unlocked and is now working fine. The following day it beeped a lot for an hour or so (must have been catching up on previous pushes) but now is back to normal.
