Samsung LA52M81BDX Picture Problem

On turn-on unit displays an image and a buzzing noise is emitted. After a few seconds, image and noise disappears but sound is OK. Looking closely at the panel a very dark image can be seen. Problem is intermittent and only occurs if the unit has been off for awhile (or cold).

Any help appreciated

If you see a very dark and very faint image it usually indicates a problem with the backlight inverter. That device take the relatively low voltage that runs the TV and ramps it up to power the cold cathode lamps in the panel. It's like the ballast in fluorescent lights. Not sure if Samsungs calls it the FL Inverter or something else I am looking into it now. You could possibly disconnect the power supply to the inverter and see if the noise goes away, then you would know to replace the inverter board. I'll have more in a bit.

Not much luck in finding parts for this TV. I would consider having it repaired if I were you, hopefully it's under warranty. Go here to find a service location near you: http://www.samsung.com/au/support/repair...

You are in Australia right? This TV seems to be an Australian model from my searches.

There is a bad connection on the inside. The unit is detecting excessive current draw when you hear the buzzing and it shuts down to prevent damage. If you are not comfortable working on this unit, bring it to a servicer. This should be a simple fix and cost the minimum labor charge for repair.

MY TV STARTS EMITTING A BUZZING SOUND AFTER IT'S BEEN ON AN HOUR OR SO. It is a Samsung DLP model HLP5063WX/XAA.

Its likely to be the color wheel which when fails can do several things: A high pitched whine or what is often described as a fan like sound.

Since the set monitors the speed of the wheel if it slows down even a little image may look odd or dark.

you can at worst hear a grinding sound and it means segments in the wheel are shattered or missing

Good news is it is readily available and many average people can replace it---you tube even has video instructions for most of the Samsung models for this.

Only two models were made and Google the model number with Color wheel to locate the one your set uses.
