You may have a fan out or somthing is blocking the vents. Have you looked to see if it has a filter? some DLP units dont have filters but most LCD units do. If the filters are some what clogged then it may not be cooling good and tripping the thermal shutdown.

Projectors use high power bulbs that get SUPER hot and they use a thermal sensor above the lamp so if it isnt cooling properly it wont start a fire. It may have other issues but i would start here because this is normal maitence on projectors.

Most projectors require that you leave plenty of space around the projector ,so it can keep itself cool.Also they have a filter that needs to be cleaned monthly. Hi,
Turn On projector, press EXIT and Up Arrow buttons on projector for 5-6 seconds, lamp hours display will appear, press Auto on projector or its remote to reset lamp hours to zero, wait 5-6 seconds to display will get disappear itself.

I also had this problem but was able to get to the menu before it turned itself off..... Instructions in the manuel on how to reset the timer.

15. Resetting the lamp counter

Do not reset if the lamp is not replaced as this could cause

damage.

i. Press and hold the Exit 5 button on the

projector for 5 seconds to display the total used

lamp time.

ii. Press Auto on the projector or on the remote

control to reset the lamp hour to "0".
iii. Wait about 5 seconds to let the OSD disappear.

Benq MP 721 projector purple colour when it projects.

You are missing one of your primary colors and this is usually to a faulty pin where you are connecting your vga cable to. It could be either the pin on vga port of your projector or it could be the vga cable itself. Please look at the pins especially if you are using one cable to try with all the compputer.

Try lowering the resolution of your pc to a lower amount that the Projector can handle. Start as low as 800x600 and try working up from there.
To change pc's resolution: Right click on the desktop, click properties then settings and try sliding the resolution adjuster and testing each one with your projector. wait for the projector to resync itself each time.

Press the Auto button when it says it's going to turn off, then hold Exit, then when it tells you, press Auto again - worked for me literally 5 mins ago :)
