ERROR LCD: WAITING FOR REPORT Solution:
Set [AUTO PRINT RX] to ON (MX300 / MX310)
AUTO PRINT RX
When
[AUTO PRINT RX] is set to [OFF], incoming received faxes will be
temporarily stored to memory and transaction reports (TX, RX and
Activity) remain in memory. The default setting is [ON], which means
incoming received faxes and transaction reports will automatically
print.
The fax machine will not automatically print a received fax and will store it in memory in the following conditions.
Ink is low or has run out
The paper size and type is not set correctly
Paper has run out
The Output Tray is closed
To set AUTO PRINT to ON, please follow these steps.
Press the <FAX> button to enter the Fax menu.
Press the <Menu> button. [FAX SETTINGS] is displayed
Press the left or right arrow button to select [RX SETTINGS] , then press <OK> two times.
Press the left arrow to select [ON], then press <OK>.
Note: When AUTO PRINT RX is set ON, a sub-menu will appear to PRINT WHEN NO INK.
At sub-menu PRINT WHEN NO INK, decide if you'd like the machine to continue to print incoming received faxes if ink is low.
CAUTION:
When this option is set ON, the fax machine will not monitor the ink
level of the ink cartridges. If ink is low or out, received faxes will
print with streaks or blank. Furthermore, once the fax is printed, it
will be deleted from memory.
To print received faxes when ink is low or out, press the left or right arrow to select [ON] and then press <OK>.
To
store received faxes in memory when ink is low or out, press the left
or right arrow to select [OFF] and then press <OK>.
Press the <Stop/Reset> repeatedly to return to Fax standby mode.
I found the manuel on line and found out how to print the faxes in memory to release the memory. So next time a big fax comes thru I will try to print and release faxes from memory.
There are only two things that fill up memory. Out-going faxes that did not send and incoming faxes that could not be printed out.
The first scenario is two fold.
#1 If the phone line has been disconnected in any way the unit will try to send a few times ( most units are set for 3 attempts before failing but this is generally an adjustable setting).
#2 Most fax machines have a setting that will delete files that failed to send automatically. Some operators choose to shut off this auto delete function and this causes unsent items to stay in memory forever.
Incoming faxes will stay in memory until they successfully print out. Some of the causes are:
A paper jam, no paper supply and toner supply or a spent drum unit. If for any reason a recieved document can't print out it remains in memory unitl the problem is solved. Some units will loose that page data if the power is shut off for 12 to 24 hours. ( this is highly dependent on the model/brand).
So break out the owners manual and read up your user settings to cure the first scenario!
Incoming faxes automatically go into memory. We can't print them out. Would like incoming faxes to print out as they used to. have tried the on off button but it didn't fix the problem
You need to set the machine up to AutoAnswer as follows per HP:
Receiving faxes automatically
If the Auto Answer option is set to
On
, the unit automatically answers incoming calls and receives faxes
after the number of rings specified by the Rings to Answer setting.
Press
Auto Answer
to turn on the Auto Answer option.
1: Setting the Auto Answer option

The only reason why your unit stops printin faxes is because the toner cartridge is nearly empty. Th e unit will then try to conserve the remaining toner for printing and copying. Follow this steps to program the unit to print all faxes, even with toner low:
When the toner cartridge is nearly empty, the machine shows
the “[Toner Empty]” message and continues printing except
incoming faxes. In this case, incoming faxes are saved in
memory.
However, you can set the machine to print incoming faxes, even
though print quality is not optimal.
1 Press Menu until “Machine Setup” appears on the display.
2 Press the scroll button ( or ) until “Ignore Toner”
appears on the bottom line and press Enter.
3 Press the Scroll button ( or ) to select “On” or “Off”.
Select “On” to ignore the [Toner Empty] message.
Select “Off” to stop printing incoming faxes when the
message appears. This is the default setting.
4 Press Enter to save the selection.
5 To return to Standby mode, press Stop/Clear.
