I have a Cd/Dvd burner built in on my laptop and I went to burn a cd and it said no device detected. It has always worked in the past, on my old desktop I pressed F5 to check for cd burner. my new laptop does not have it. how do I reset it and fix it?
I have the same problem. I sent it back to Acer for a fix and they said they did. Now it is doing it again. It randomly registers in the bios. When the computer is on, I can eject cds/dvd and it runs. Just the computer does not register the drive.
Check the bios when the laptop first boots. There should be a message saying something like "Press F2 To Enter Setup"
See if your drive is detected and listed in the bios.
If not, power off, pop the drive out and reinsert it then try again.
You may have to turn the laptop over and remove one screw about 5" from the edge but near the drive. It will not be in any panel. If you can't see it then a quick read of your manual should show you how it comes out.
If it is detected in the bios, then boot Windows again and go into System then Device Properties (you can reach SYSTEM from control panel)
Check the list to make sure your drive is installed under Windows.
If that does not help, then post back and we can try a few other things.

Thank You I'm going to try it now
my cd burner does not detect a cd or dvd
I can read from the drives but for an unknown reason I cannot write to the drive. The software does not see the drive as writable.
Thanks
Steve
I have the same problem with my Acer 5100 notebook. Help!!
I have the same problem. I sent it back to Acer for a fix and they said they did. I still had problems and had to reinstall the bios and vista. Now it is doing it again. It randomly registers in the bios. When the computer is on, I can eject cds/dvd and it runs. Just the computer does not register the drive or randomly looses it in the bios while the computer is running.
