ASUS P5L-VM 1394 mother

I'm looking at buying a 2nd hand gaming PC for my 12 year old son, but am worried that it won't have the legs for the latest (and future release games over say the next 12 months,)

The PC spec is

Pentium 4 3.2GHz LGA775 64bit Processor
ASUS P5L-VM 1394 mother board with IEEE 1394a (fireware), 6 x USB, Intel GMA 950 graphics, up to 4GB DDR2 RAM

Sapphire ATI X1600Pro PCI-E video card with 256MB RAM. VGA TV-OUT and DVI ports
250GB Seagate BARRACUDA 7200RPM SATA HDD
Transcend 2GB (2 x 1024MB chips) DDR2 677Mhz PC2-5300 RAM with Life Warranty
I suppose my question is ( as it looks a quick machine is will it play games that ask foe Dual core......)

2ndly would this mother board support future upgrades to Intel dual or Quadcore and Nvidia Geforce 8000 technology. If it does It may be worth taking a punt on it ?

Sorry to be no clearer than that I'm simply not technical enough.....

Any ideas or advise would be gratefully recieved

Thanks in advance

Steven

Thankyou for your consise answer, I presume that if the mother board will handle extreme duo core it can handle the Nvidia GPU's (If not the best, then one that gives my kid a chance on line against his peers !)

Now I need to go and convince my wife it's money well spent !

Thanks I'll call you should I need you in the future !!

    Steven

Here is a link to a website that identifies the specs for your motherboard, and also identifies the type of processors that are compatible with your motherboard. It is Intel Core 2 duo/ Intel Core 2 duo Extreme capable.

It looks like you have a good candidate for a gaming pc, in my opinion. I would suggest that you upgrade the memory to its max of 4 GB. This link also has a list of all compatible memory modules for your motherboard, If you click on a memory module, there is an option on the next page to tell you where you can buy it and for how much.

Need the motherboard to utilize all the RAM

Hello download the manual here:

http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P5L-VM%201394&p=1&s=22

The mainboard only supports up to 4 gb of ram.

To use the 4 gb, the ram type must be at equal size, inserted in the yellow or the black socket.

Good luck
