RED WAVY LINE THROUGH SCREEN OF HITACHI 57F500 REAR PROJECTION HDTV TV

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Screen has too much green all of a sudden

Try balancing the tubes out, turn your color all the way down and the brightness in the middle, then find the focus block, it will be a block with 6 controls one row will say screen the other will say focus near the picture tubes, adjust the screen controls(one control for each color) until the picture has a good black and white look to it, then turn your color up and it should look fine. This is how i balance out the picture. But there is another method that allot of techs use, the other method is to adjust the brightness up until you see what is called retrace lines it is a jagged line going down the screen, once you see these lines back the adjustment down just until they disappear. Do this for all three colors. This method works but on an older set can throw the white balance off because of tube wear.

Not really a problem

HD ready means that the set is not true HD but you can add HD . So the answer is that you will probably get a little better picture.

Hitachi 57f500

You may have a bad convergance chip, a bad CRT( picture tube ), CRT Board ( board pluged into the picture tube),or a bad video chip. Although this is somwhat a common problem on this model of set, I have found many different fixes. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good Luck
